Sometimes I like to ask for pictures so I can be somewhat NOT surprised by the fact that in general females think small stuff such as this is not in fact SMALL stuff!! ;-)

I've known her a long time and had no reason to think it was more than a "branch". It all worked out.

I just have to laugh because I find myself in similar situations and I ask myself... Dave, ya gotta do a better job at asking for more information when doing good deeds...

Had I thought I couldn't do it with the 210, I would have postponed. I've had that little saw for 10+ years and have used it to cut things that it/I had no business even considering.

Main reason I upgraded to the 261. I was hitting/exceeding the limits of the 210.

As we walked to the back of her house, I saw it and said "that's a __ing branch"?

She slapped me in the back of the head, smiled and said "yaaaa".

Just shook my head and said "go inside".

Personally I love this saw as is. But is there a potential cost to the modification? Yes. But like anything that is modified, personal preference plays a huge role in the decision making process. For me and the work that I was doing it made sense. I’m not a logger so the saw wasn’t run daily. But when I was removing a large tree growing near a structure I needed a saw with a quick response. Especially if you are falling a tree where margins for error were calculated in inches and not feet/yards. This saw gives me that response. When I touch the trigger it goes...no lag. Important when you may be turning the tree as it is falling by adjusting the strap wood. There is a calculated cost when saws are used as precision tools and not just for firewood production. One cost/consideration is that proper maintenance becomes a critical element. After all one shouldn’t buy a Porsche if you don’t want to pay for the maintenance. Though I suppose it might look nice sitting in the driveway even if it no longer runs...

Yes. Stihl moved the 0 around in either the late 90’s or early 2000’s and added MS (motorsage). There are some design changes in some models and I believe internal components may have changed. I think the older saws had roller bearings so you could replace the crank but the new ones may not???

Thanks -as I stated somewhere I have a older 021 that I inherited from my late FIL. The older "small dog" runs like a top and never fails to start.

They are great saws. Enjoy it! The reality is with care you will be handing it down to your kids.

This little sucker actually fell off of my FIL's truck and bounced down a highway. FIL gave up on it and a few weeks later some very honest people turned it in to a local Quick stop. They knew my FIL and called him , by that time he had bought a new Stihl 170. It sat around for years with a broken handle assy. When going through their (in-laws) stuff , I decided to see if it was fixable. My GREAT dealer (Brandt's Chainsaw) did a solid and cheapie fix for me and it has been great.
BTW I also now have the 170 after my Brother in law passed. They all -including the new 261CM all run great.

First of all...sorry for your losses...but what a great testimony to the engineering of these saws.

I believe that's correct. I think they changed the numbering and added the MS around 2000.

btw - up early getting ready for a duck hunt.
