What Chainsaw do you run?

Just watched the video. Not ready to go to that level! I will stick with round filing for the time being.

 

I have a friend who logs professionally. He puts a full chisel on all his chains. But he has a spendy little tool to make it quick and easy. For $1700.00 I will stick to the round file.

 

I have one of the little Oregon electric sharpeners and really like it. Been using it for >20yrs. It's a 12V and I hook it to my battery charger when using it in the garage.

 

I don't miss those days. Up until last year I still climbed about 2 times a year for pruning and friends tree work... Don't care to do it anymore.

 

I hear you! I still climb occasionally. Just on the side. I just got to the point where I said I don’t want to do that for a living anymore. Plus I’m a lot more picky about the trees I bid on. Won’t touch cottonwoods…don’t care how much they offer!!!

There's a really clean Shindaiwa 352S 35cc saw local to me for $85 with a 14" and a 16" bar. I read that these are pro saws and found a little bit on them. Anyone with opinions or thoughts as to this saw's value.? Worth $85?

So nice having a big saw to deadhead stumps.

 

I do the same but boy is it rough on the chain. Especially when the tree grows around rocks and they are embedded in the trunk.

 

Bonus to hitting a nail is I already have a bad chain just for deadheading stumps. Negative is I still haven’t bought a new chain.

 

Had to remove this huge branch hanging over the yard. At first I tried a poll saw but the branch was too high. Then I tried making my own chainsaw rope out of a old bent 16” chain. No luck with that so I bought a chainsaw rope from northern tool. I cut about halfway through before the branch twisted and wedged the chain. Luckily I was able to use brute force and broke the last bit free by pulling on the branch.

 

Just picked up this little gem. Pretty happy with it so far. Good power and super light. The best part it fits inside the drawer on my flat bed.

 

Rope saws take practice and finesse. I get on one side way off to the side and undercut the branch focusing on lifting the rope on the bottom of the cut then go to the other side and do the same. This allows the branch to fall w/o pinching.
Then get a partner and get as far away as possible to decrease the radius of the chain contact with the branch. If you are cutting by yourself too much of the chain ends up buried in the sides of the branch. More chain in the branch=more chance of binding.

 

Everything was going great until the end of the branch touched the ground which caused it to twist to the left. I was able to grab the end of the branch and pull it by hand causing it to fall. Overall $60 well spent. If only it wasn’t so hot out I have another 40 trees to cut down.

 

I bought one of those last year. I love it! So much power for such a tiny saw. I hope you get as much use out of your as I do out of mine.

 

I'm not running my Husky 365sp right now. I backed onto it in the woods this morning...buried the blade and broke the hand guard for the chain brake. Grrr. Didn't put it far enough off the trail I was clearing. As I realized I couldn't see the saw I stopped and went forward, then realized my error. Could have been much worse however.

Cheap fix, but have to wait for the parts (I bought 2 just in case). Never happened before, but who knows? (that plus age and stage). That leaves only 3 work saws between 2 households instead of 4. A new Husky 365, Stihl 032, Echo 68 or something, all with 24 inch bars. How will I get by, sigh.

 

its a real struggle. I had a large branch snap last week. I only used 2 of my 3 says, the MS170 and MS261 were called upon, I almost fired up the MS400c but wasn't really worth it. the 261 was ripping and hungry.

 

So tempted to get a mid sized saw. Been looking on Craigslist but nothing has caught my attention
