I think anyone buying firewood is going to be getting ash for a while. Fencelines, along roadways, lots of ash to come down. I used to just have it in the mix for end of season fires, but it's going to be more now. 20% of my woodlot is ash.

We had a mild winter last year, I never touched any of my oak or cherry, we burned ash excusively.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Who wants to help me with this. I wanna saw some rough benches out of it. Large squares or rectangles to be exact.

I'd love to, but my weekends are booked for a while.

How long do you want to wait?

There is an FJ40 down here that is for sale - looks to be untouched and not beat up.

You could build another one... :D

I just finished testing the stock bore and stroke 3120 with the new big bore WG I machined with a 5% Nitro methanol mix. She’s buzzing tight and constant through the cut @ 319° F.

Plenty to go if I wanted to go leaner. Might try 10%. But I might also stick to 5 being Shaver Lake is at nearly 6,000’.

I can’t wait for Shaver Lake. The jubilee has been gone for several years. Come one come all!

I have some videos of me competing with my hot saws. But no practice stuff. Particularly with methanol, so much stuff is going on I don’t have time to mess with the cell. As afterwards, you have to flush it with GAS. I take my time and wick as much of the meth/nitro with paper towels rolled up. Once I soaked up most of it in the tank, it’s time to flush with gas.

I do have GREAT news. Now that I know more about carb flow and how to improve their performance, I was able to check with Cody and no one has tried fixing it for him.

Long story short, I modded a Stihl 044 for him 7/8 years ago. Two piece head build. The carb could never settle the high rpm’s. That tells me (now) that it’s running lean on a maxed carb. So I’ll be modifying the small ports that feed the L and H circuits. More fuel will get him to be able to tune the saw when needed. And the performance level will rise even more. I’m pinche stoked!

You folks that like watching videos of fallers/builders, this cat makes great videos. Enjoy.

Time to go to work so this Stihl 044 can rise again.

EDIT: No commercials from this cat. And myself, I don’t have a tube account. I don’t know how to post a video otherwise.

BTW, those of you with 3120’s, if you have a lathe, you can bore the throttle plate to accept the choke plate. Note scribed line on the stock plate.

I’m going to attempt the same on the 044 in the future IF this present mod works.
