Speaking of hard starting saws. Easy fix. Use pre-mixed methanol.

A small squirt and it’s ALIVE. Best choke on the planet.

Been in the zone, with the exception of HL. That was a tough one. And as sometimes, learning pains. I buzzed to a 4th place in the two cut. It was my fault as I decided to take off the carb cover…at 7,000’, it didn’t like it and ran fat off my original tune which was just fine at the pits. What!?! I didn’t think it would do that. Then the last event, the Grand Daddy cut…I botched it ugly. :anonymous:

Man, I needed some redemption BAD!!!! Great time up in Arnold, CA with some great folks this past Saturday. I took 2nd to a bike saw in unlimited, and 1st against Dan and his father’s West Bend. What a rush. 5.63, 5.87.

It feels good to add to the wall again.

I forgot to mention the cool story from this past weekend!

So I’m hanging out with Dan and his dad and a good friend of theirs. We’re talking about their KART motors (West Bend/Mac’s) and he brings out methanol and says, “You know, this past weekend I was getting ready for the races and decided to squirt methanol instead of GAS as a choke. It fired right up. I ain’t squirting GAS no more.”

I tell you folks, it’s the truff!

Just in case anyone wants to try it. One pull, guaranteed.

    LOL

I generally always take three, usually a variety, just to play.

I don't mind refueling, but I don't like sharpening in the field (I prefer to sharpen on my bench, in a vise). All of this wood was on the ground, so the chances of dulling a chain were high.

Sharpening in a vise...the only way to fly. I have a black marker in the toolbox, rub all over the top of one tooth so I can see when I'm finished (when it comes around again). Too many teeth to count on at least 2 24inch chains per sharpening gig.

I do the same thing, except with a red marker.

    Bare file, no guide.

I just put a 25" bar on my saw and sharpened for the first time. man, just when you think you its almost done, its halfway done on 1 side. Im used to a 20" chain. Who knew 12 extra DLs would add that much more time.

IMG_3612.jpgI had an old 066 which I traded for some money and I bought this. I just buy logs and make them into firewood and this has a lot less vibration than my old saw

Am I glad this build is over! Freaking nerves handling/machining/porting someone else’s spanking brand new 3120xp. Big bore WG flowing 5%, finger ported, two piece head with Yamaha inspired chamber.

I stopped building for others years ago. But this hombre needed help. He lost everything in a fire, including his Mac built by Terry I. I couldn’t tell the man no.

But now I’m up against it :hattip:

20 year old Stihl. I don't remember the number, but it's a mid-level "prosumer" model.

The first chainsaw I bought was a Husqvarna 394XP which I got for $5 and a Stihl completely dissasembled in a 5gal bucket!! Was missing the bar, chain, clutch cover and ignition coil and maybe more. Decided to sell it for a very very nice profit!!
The family saw is a small Stihl (think it's a 171) which is all we really need.

New addition to the family. Certainly not a replacement for my Stilhs (MS210 and MS261), but a great light duty and truck/adventure saw. I'm already on the Milwaukee platform for my Carpentry tools, so made sense with my collection of batteries.
