So in a fit of rage I may have punched my passenger seat (vertical portion) and now my airbag light is on and the passenger airbag is off. I didn't think there were any electronics in the back of the seat... Any ideas as to what I may have broken or where I should start my search?

Check your anti-depressant medication. The prescription must of run out. It's a good time to remove the locked and loaded gun out of the truck...

I'm sure Google can help to find a new doctor that believes in you..... Otherwise I dunno. I don't live in Florida, good for me.

There is a sensor (or mechanism) under the seat which detects the weight of a passenger and cancels the airbag function if there is a child in the seat. I would disconnect the battery first and wait for 15 min?!? Before checking. You may have just caused the plug to come undone. Cross your fingers.

I had those exact symptoms recently. The dealer needed to recalibrate the sensor(s) then all was good again. Cost $50

Was not caused by treating my seat like a punching bag though

Nothing good comes from punching inanimate objects. It only causes bruised fist and broken things that you have to fix or pay to fix.

I agree you may have damaged the side curtain air bag if you are so equipped. I don't think there are any sensors in the seat back, but the side air bag is in there..
