What did I do to my "Clutch Start Cancel" switch

I moved my "Clutch Start Cancel" switch over one position so I could add a lightbar switch in it;s original position. All I did was unplug it and move the harness over one hole and plug it back in.

Now I can't start the truck (no starter) unless I momentarily push the button while turning the key. It will not crank in either switch position but if I hit the switch while turning the key it starts right up...????? One single plug, should be easy.

    Any ideas guys?

I'd have a look at the wiring and switch itself that gets pressed in when the clutch is pushed in. Sounds like you problem may be there. Maybe a wire connected to both the switch and the clutch got tugged when you moved it. Only a hunch though, haven't seen how they wire that all up.

The Clutch Start Cancel switch is a parallel circuit with the actual clutch depressed switch. Either one should energize the Start Relay and allow the starter to work. One should not interfere with the other. They both go to a connection block under the dash and that may have gotten partially unplugged.

    Try this:

Unplug the start cancel switch and see if the truck will start by pressing the clutch to the floor.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

With the switch unplugged and the clutch pedal on the floor the result is the same, no cranking.

    The wires look OK.

I have never used the Clutch Start Cancel" switch, so it is odd that the switch itself might break.

If you have a multimeter I would check the switch down at the clutch. I know this occurred after moving the dash switch, but from what you are describing it sounds like that switch is working fine and it is the clutch switch itself that is now not working properly. If the clutch switch itself is in good working order then I'd trace the wires that go to it and make sure nothing got disconnected.

Put the key in and turn to ON, leave it for 30 seconds. Then hold down the clutch switch cancel button until it lights up. It should stay lit, then try cranking without pushing the clutch and see if it starts. If it does, then the clutch switch at the pedal is probably the issue. The clutch cancel switch only gets power in the ON position and not when cranking in START. It gets latched on in ON, then holds power to the starter relay to bypass the clutch switch. The fact that it doesn't start with the clutch pedal alone which should rule out the switch circuit makes the pedal switch suspect.

Yes basically what I said above they are two parallel circuits. One should not effect the other. I think he has an issue with the clutch depressed switch.

I agree it is probably the switch on the clutch, thanks.

Anybody have info on how to adjust or replace the switch?

Maybe you pulled the connector off the clutch pedal switch while moving the clutch cancel switch - I'd look up in there first of all to see what's up.

After looking very closely at the clutch switch wiring, I found one of the (very small gauge) wires ripped out of the connector. A bitch and a half to solder in a short section of wire for the repair. Working great again. Thanks for the suggestions here that focused me on the clutch switch.
