If a gravel road counts......it’ll be a while. No, it won’t flex as much as a Tacoma since the frame on a 4runner is fully boxed and is 21 inches shorter than the Tacoma. I’m not looking to do any hardcore off-roading, so it’s a moot point for me. 4runner is also top heavier than the Tacoma, so I can see why it would tend to roll....trade offs no matter how you look at it.

Yeah I didn't mean to knock it just wanted to point out there are in fact real trade offs.

For me it was the flex and wanted to keep my big ass dirty/wet dogs out of the cabin so needed a pickup bed for them. Otherwise yeah I'd be in a 4Runner as they're just overall nicer, but that comes on the tradeoff of capability and people should be aware of that when weighing their options. I certainly didn't know! I literally used to think 4runners and Tacomas were built on the same platform just the 4runner had the VVT-i and more sound deadening, then someone SHOWED me the difference and it was kind of an aha moment.... this was years after I even flipped one down a mountain I still didn't know :frusty:

They really gutted the build quality and durability of the Tacoma the last couple of years knowing they could take advantage of the past reliability history and reputation. Cost of production went way down using cheaper parts and exploiting slave labor wages in Mexico.

Lol, that’s a rough way to find out! Glad you made it out of that roll though, that looks rather nasty.

Same brakes as all the others. You really think an OR will stop quicker than any other Tacoma? Lol

My understanding is that the OR has a different master cylinder and/or booster. If you look under the hood there is a difference in the systems.

Correct, the M/C and Booster are different.

uh actually I KNOW it will. Look up the line pressure on a TRD offroad vs Sport or SR5 ;)

Edit: braking distance for an Offroad is 124-125ft depending on whos testing:
    https://www.edmunds.com/toyota/taco...st/2016-toyota-tacoma-performance-tested.html

SR5 and sport are 132-135ft and more prone to fade according to certain tests:
    http://www.motortrend.com/cars/toyota/tacoma/2016/2016-toyota-tacoma-v-6-first-test-review/

Turns out having a massive electric hydraulic booster running something like 30% increased pressure gives an advantage over a traditional vacuum unit (which is also much smaller, just pop the hood on an SR5 and compare you can SEE the difference... hell go drive them and FEEL the difference the pedal response is completely different)

6 full flips and 3 of us inside. Only injuries were minor: a torn rotator cuff and broken wrist.

Thats a 1998 4Runner btw but kinda looks like a 90s jeep grand cherokee after getting so smushed.

No mods... Hankook DynaProATMs, TRD shifter handle, Husky floor liners.
OP- maybe what you’re experiencing on the road is related to another thread... Toyota has a TSB for an ecm update that helps with engine mapping and trans shifting. Had mine done today and it was like driving a completely different truck. Worth a try.

Stock (for now) with some mild conveniences thanks to Amazon.
Dealer said my ecm was up to date. Said no update for tranny either. I guess had latest update even though I bought a late 2017. Dealer replaced actuator. Toyota Care at least stepped up and got dealer the part sooner. Haven’t been back out to test it yet. Pretty much it.

Good! The actuator must have been the problem. Hope this solves your issues!
