Well I'm curious to see what you all did with your wheels/tires. I will be purchasing a new 2011 sport coming this december. BUT i know for sure i want a new set of wheel and bigger tires. The tacoma will come with the 265/65/17 but i was thinking about going to a 275/65/18. or maybe a 17 with a larger tire, but still new wheels.

But i was interested in what you did with your wheels?

----should i make a deal with the dealer?

-----should i sell to someone after i install my new ones? If so, what would a practically brand new set of stock wheel and tires go for? (ballpark estimate)

    sell as a set?

Thanks for the help is advance ! Happy upcoming thanksgiving all.

You can probably sell them for a little. I gave mine away to a friend of mine whose tires were bald as hell you could see the belts coming through. So I thought karma may one day repay me..still waiting

I would try to make a deal with the dealer first. If that doesnt work out you can sell them here/ebay/craigslist but it may take some time. I sold just my wheels for 250.00 (the 16" offroads) but mine werent new. I have seen the wheels go anywhere from 150.00 to 400.00. I would think the dealer would proly take the tires (if you took them off the day you get the truck) over the wheels.

I sold my stock wheels with the original tires for $300 on craigslist. The tires were THRASHED. 40,000 miles, tread chunked really bad, one had a nail, sidewalls rock scraped.

    haha

so say the dealer doesn't deal with me. What do you think i should list a set of tires with less than 500 miles at the very most and brand new rims? at the moment i plan on driving off the straight to install. just wanted to research my best options. thanks for the input already!

I'm in the same boat. I bought my truck used but the previous owner did just what you plan to do and I got the stock wheels/tires with the truck with maybe a month of driving tops.

I just did a quick look on tire rack and a set of American Racing 17" alloys for $138/ea with the same Bridgestone duelers and TPMS sensors is going to be nearly $1600. I've also got the original lugs. For me I've got 285/18s and they're BFG ATs and I like the look and traction of big ATs, I'm not planning on ever going back to highway tires so I want to flip my stockers but I loathe the idea of selling $1600 worth of nearly new wheels and tires for $300 or something. I'd like to think for a base or SR5 owner near here with worn out tires he'll be looking at at least $800 and more like $1000 for a decent set of rubber and I'd take that for the alloy wheel/tire package.

I might list them on Craigslist and just try and ignore the million lowballers who want you to give them your stuff for free and throw in delivery as a bonus.

Why not buy the new wheels and tires and work out a deal with the dealer to install them for you BEFORE you drive the new truck. This way you get them installed for free and you can take the new tires home and call them dealer take-offs. Might be able to sell them for more as take-offs rather than slightly used.

After only putting 2500 miles on mine, my dealer has offered a pretty good deal to purchase both my stock wheels and tires. You may be able to work a deal up front.
