same, I tried a few different dealers just to see if the sales guy from precision was trying to scam me when he said they were the only ones in the area who aren't tacking on extra fees just because, but after checking around, he was right.

It's a one way street with dealers. They won't pay market adjustment on a trade, even if you show them someone else is willing to pay it. But if they think someone might pay their speculative market adjustment on a new car, they won't negotiate at all.

I have a deposit on an army green DCLB TRD Sport. It has "upgraded audio" which I think is actually standard for TRD Sports. I'm paying $2k market adjustment so 43,337 sale price. After tax title etc it'll be $47,600 out the door. I'm in NJ. All dealerships that claim to only charge MSRP will then add on required dealer packages so you're paying up either way. My neighbor is in the car sales business and told me $2k over MSRP in this market is pretty good. If you don't have to buy vehicle now don't do it, but I believe these dealerships aren't getting the volume they're used to so they're hurting too.

I need a vehicle now as mine was totaled. Thankfully I'm getting a good payout (37k when I paid 30k for it) so my market adjustment doesn't sting so bad. The same dealer has a lunar rock with the moonroof+LED package but they want a $7k market adjustment. Maybe I'll call them again to see if they've budged on that. If anyone has a NJ hookup let me know!

Selling new car with price over MSRP is illegal in BC, canada. I just learned that from my salesman. The price for used Tacoma has rocketed way high in sky, yet the new Trucks still stick to MSRP. The only concern for new truck is long waiting.

I traded in my 2010 silverado 1500 z71 4x4 crew cab. Gave me a decent deal on my trade in as well. BUt yeah they had like a car alarm markup and 3M paint protection. I also bought 75K or 10 year warranty cause I was like screw it and I told them to give it to me for half the cost and I would buy it LOL

That's the SoCal dealership gamesmanship we all know and love! But yeah, you still got a sweet deal, regionally speaking.

I'm going to pay a $3k markup for my Lunar Rock OR 4x4, but will likely sell my trade-in to Carvana for $3k-$4k above what dealers are offering. And about $3k-$4k over KBB value prior to the inventory crunch. So it's kind of a wash in terms of 'market adjustments' on my incoming and outgoing vehicles.

I've kept engaged with other SoCal dealers in case my deal fell through. My god, what a cluster f---. The recent floor has been $4.2k in markup + the dumbest add-ons ever. $5k adjustment is a popular number, but I've even heard $8k or $10k with some 'creative' addendum packaging. And some of the sales people actually seem embarrassed because they know what they are pitching for 'value added addendum' is such a load of bull.

So, yeah, I'm gonna pay $49.3k OTD with a $3k markup, and somehow I'm not getting a terrible deal. I could roll the dice looking for an order/allocation in AZ or CO. But that's pretty high risk to land what I want in a finite time, involves additional shipping or travel costs, and my trade-in may or may not still be golden in 3-6 months.

if your willing to travel i just got mine from rohrich toyota in pittsburgh. Msrp no addons no pinstripe garbage. If you can save a few thousand a short road trip would probably be worth it. I rented a car one way for 120. Greensburgh toyota also charging msrp. And i believe brewer too. Also i read the dealer in easton pa only charges msrp but i didnt know that til after i got mine. That would be alot closer

Currently trying to pick my next Toyota!
I just sold my 2018 SR DC with 50k miles for $35k (within KBB private party range) to a Nissan dealer then scored a new 2022 SR DC two days later for msrp $34,xxx + TTL totaling $37,750. It cost me $2,700 all in to switch trucks and now it shifts perfectly! Haha

This is true. But a lot of dealers will put every accessory that can in the truck @100% markup

100% markup is pretty generous compared to what dealers try in the US. I wouldn't be surprised if some tried to pass off a straight markup of $1k for nitrogen in the tires.

Put a deposit down on a 22 TRD Pro for MSRP. Only issue is they said it could be 4-12 months before they get it.

Not sure where you're located but I would reach out to more dealerships and get a delivery time frame locked in with at most 4 months (preferably less). 4-12 months is way too vague - find a dealer that has a definite allocation coming in. Your dealer is just hoping to catch an allocation in that time and wants to sell you a truck. Good luck - times are crazy but I really think you can do better than what your dealer is telling you.
