They chose to sell me a truck with the add-ons, then one without. I'd rather take a few of the add-ons and make a couple bucks than not take them if the truck is the same price either way.

They refuse to do TFS and buyer financing. Cold hard cash before delivery.

What I was writing about is the more general case - you apparently found a unicorn scenario where the dealer for some reason was willing to discount that particular truck so much they offset the addons (and eat their cost for them) but not discount the other. Not really a situation most folks can count on finding.

Yeah, if they won't finance the truck and are demanding cash only that's a red flag to me. Even though I could self-finance and pay cash, I'd take a worse deal elsewhere over traveling to a different state and walk into an unknown situation with tens of thousands of dollars in cash on my person.

Yea, that’s really fishy. A Toyota dealer that won’t use Toyota Financing? Makes no sense. Out of state shouldn’t matter at all either. They should want to finance it to get that kickback. I’d be wary of this place.

Yea something is off for sure. It’s a pretty big dealer near a large city so it’s very odd. I had inquired online about the availability of the truck I wanted and a salesperson replied via text. I may call the dealership to confirm.

I'll likely be financing through TFS, but without a trade-in. Think they'll require a big down payment to get the advertised rate? My credit is solid and payoff in 48 months or less should be doable. I just need to know if I should wait and squirrel away a down payment to get the lowest rate.

I think it may depend on where you are. Tristate-West says "For only very well qualified customers. Amount financed, down payment amount, and credit worthiness may impact availability of offer." Southeast Toyota says "For only very well qualified customers. No down payment required if qualified for advertised offer. If you do not qualify for the offer, the amount and percentage of any down payment vary with your credit qualifications."

Personally I'd do enough down payment to avoid any need for gap insurance.

If your credit rating is over 850, you should be good. :)

I'm in Central Atlantic, I think. Similar fine print. "For only very well qualified customers. Amount financed, down payment amount, and credit worthiness may impact availability of offer. Dealer contribution may vary and could affect price."

I assume the LTV risk is what would require down payment. Hopefully income/credit would be sufficient, but otherwise I'd delay my dreams and save a few months for a 10k down payment if necessary.

Called the sales dept (not GM) and got the same answer. They said it's just their dealer that does not do out of state financing deals. But a cash wire would work. Very odd but not a huge issue as I wasn't planning on financing much anyway. I'll be pushing for a larger discount on my end though.
