Nothing wrong with living in your truck, house prices are out of control lately. Not sure what you’re getting about a war in my head, simply said I don’t care for the tacticool/brolander trend…but hey to each their own. Whatevs…

Love camping, but don’t like to display it. Don’t like it tied to the truck either, my 1st Gen has a Wildernest, every time I got it all set up…want to run somewhere. Thought about getting a Hiatus Camper for my 3rd Gen, but a trailer is better for me, can leave it then go run around. Do like the look of the Wildernest, most people can’t tell it is a camper when it is closed. Too bad no one is making something like it anymore. Wedge campers are close, but stand out too much for me.

Camp so much almost bought a Transit, but didn’t want to daily it. Like the vans since you can hide/protect everything on the inside. Spent years cooking on the tailgate or inside a tent and it sucks, especially in foul weather. RTTs are a pain in the ass, just not my thing, glad it works for you though. “You could have the sweetest peaches in the world, but some guys don’t like peaches…”

$1800 then another couple hundred to have rails put on top. Lakeland topper. No issues in 4 years up there, no leaks etc.

Yeah I dunno…he must be trying to justify his purchase, or can’t believe other people think differently than him, or just trying to be a troll.

I found a camper shell! $400 on FB marketplace. it’s blue (I have MGM) and needs a paint job since some of it is peeling off, but can’t beat the price!

now… what mounting rails should I get to mount a prinsu rack?

Yakima or Thule rails will work fine. I ended up having to buy new hardware to fit the roof tracks since the stuff that came with my rack was too small.

This is the hardware I used. Fits perfectly in the Thule track slots: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08VD34DVL?_encoding=UTF8

Yup, and if you seal your bed/install the shell right, it won’t leak. The RLD and RSI shells you seem to love so much have the EXACT same leak issues from the bed corners if they aren’t sealed right.

 Again - your beloved stainless canopies will leak in the corners of the bed, if not sealed right. For the 1000th - it’s the bed not the shell, doesn’t matter if it’s a fiberglass, aluminum, steel, GFC…etc. They will all leak in the bed corners if not installed properly.

At this point, it seems like he’s just trolling. Like, we get it dude, you don’t like fiberglass canopies o_O

nah, I just think you’re a tool…nothing personal! You keep rocking Grandpa’s fiberglass shell that overhangs, leaks and looks like shit, and I will keep rocking my Pest Control canopy with a #750 load rating, that doesn’t leak and actually fits.

Free. Dude was giving hid toyota back to the bank. I was the repo agent that went to pick up the unit. We got talking and he said I could have his shell if I want it. He'd rather it go to someone rather than the bank. Definitely a win for me. A.R.E. cap20210724_164802.jpg

I looked at the RSI, from what their site shows, looks good and its different. But from the posts pics of people who actually have them, it doesn't look right. For one, the roof line isn't flush with the cab roof. It sits higher. Thats when I noticed the pics from RSI looks photoshopped. And I didn't see an option for solid doors instead of glass side windows.

There's more of the fiberglass shells out there compared RSI/RLD kind, so there's gonna be more cases of people reporting leaking. As number of RSI/RLD install base grows, there's going to people who report leaking. Its just statistics.

From what can see, as long as its installed right and properly sealed, it shouldn't leak. improper install is gonna leak no matter the type of shell.

Back to main topic, looks like they all cost roughly about the same when built to similar capabilities. But with fiberglass, there's options to go cheaper who doesn't need all the capabilities.

Paid $3,700 OTD installed for the RLD. Another $900 for the roof rack.

Not everyone's cup of tea, I know. But I love this canopy. Only change I'd make is to have the canopy color matched (doors black). May do that in the future. At the time it looked like I didn't have the time to wait for a 6 month plus lead time for the color matched canopy, and snagged an all black one already on the boat. Had I known then I'd be cancelling my late October trip, I'd have waited the additional 3 months. But I got it for the functionality and toughness.

Did a lot of pre-delivery sealing work on the truck, and this thing seals up nice and tight. During the last heavy rains, did find a spot on each corner at the front of the bed I need to work on some more, but other than that, not a drop of water inside at any other location after driving hours in heavy, heavy, blowing rain. The tablespoon or so of water at each front corner after all that rain is really the least of my worries for what I got this canopy for, but pride will have me looking for a solution to the little bit of water that is getting in.
