I've had my 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD since 2009 and I believe that the engines are both related in that the Chevy 2.8L diesel is a newer design of the 2.8L Turbo in the Jeeps. GM makes it under license from when they owned a part of VM Motori, which is now all part of FCA. They call it a Duramax though and make it in their factory. It's a good engine at least the Jeep one is if you remember that it is a nasty Italian mistress if not well cared for it will make you very frustrated and broke. Mine was good to me because I was good to it. I have heard about the horrible stories with the diesel after treatment systems on all the new diesel trucks. That's why I got a taco this time.

A.R.E. Topper with victory topper rack, blacked out exterior emblems, star armor side steps, TRD CAI, TRD Pro exhaust, Method MR305 NV 16in Rims, TRD PRO front grill, Meso coin holder, TRD Pro skid plate, Kings 2.5 coilovers with remote resis front and rear, OME HD Dakar’s, ECGS, LT285/75R16 KM3s, Dirt king UCAs, Meso gas cap holder, Meso blacked out interior kit, TRD start/stop red button, AVS low profile window guards, AVS low profile hood protector, Full LED upgrades inside and outside, decked bed storage system. And I’m sure there’s more I’m missing lol
Maybe I just got a lemon :notsure: After numerous emission related failures (DPF, exhaust sensors etc) and 15 dealer visits in 30k miles, I was over it. I tried the diesel hype, wasn’t for me. Now, would I own an older diesel before all the DEF and EPA requirements, hell yes I would. As I have said before, Toyota is smart for not bringing their diesel stateside. They don’t want to deal the emissions nightmare that’s required here.
Now I’m not shunning the ZR2 completely, it was an awesome suspension set up, abused it off road and it always wanted more. Got a chance to use both the lockers which was cool. I’d do a ZR2 again but the V6 version. However, now that I have my 19 Tacoma, I’m set for many many years. Take care!

2012 Charger R/T with Road and Track pack. It had bald tires and I didn't want to buy new ones. It treated us well with 135K.

How was that transition full size diesel to a Tacoma? Do you regret it or are you happy with your decision?

I'm sure the Tacomas will be great. The thing I think made the Diesel engines hard to deal with is the emissions stuff. My Jeep only had an EGR valve, none of that after treatment systems. I'm sure that is why we don't see a diesel Tacoma like you can get it in a Hilux overseas.

My son recently got a 2002 4x4 6 Cyl, Access Cab - TRD off road SR5 (with the diff lock). It’s a manual, been garaged entire life, all doc maintenance, with a nice lift, ARB bumper, Warn Winch. A close friend (who bought the truck new) sold it to him, before he sold it to him he put on: new clutch, timing belt/water pump, new rear drive shaft/u joints, new 33’ Duratracs...sold it to him for 3500 bucks. A lot of miles (225k I think it was). That is a sweet truck!!! It’s small but feels like a tank around our farm and drives very straight and solid. I love my 2019, I’ve put 65k on it since Jan ‘19...great truck! I still wish I kept the 2005, but If I can find a deal like my son got I’ll have a first GEN too (lol).

Great thread. Traded my 2007 V6 Rav4 with 198K very hard miles. It had the notorious cam pin rattle (sounds like rod is coming through the engine on start-up) and a leaky/whiny rear differential, but boy do I miss it. Love the Tacoma but if I had it to do over...tough call.

So my wife has this same car with the V6 and, no joke, it is probably one of the fastest cars I’ve ever driven. I used to have a tuned 2006 STI w/ upgraded turbo and I swear my wife’s RAV4 would smoke it off the line. I’ve burned Porches, Evo’s, Chargers, Subies, Beamers just out grabbing groceries - it’s the ultimate sleeper. I can understand why you’d want another one.

I remember reading somewhere that the 2007 V6 RAV4 was actually the fastest factory production Toyota of the 2000’s. Anyone else heard this?

Yes the RAV4 v6 was toyotas fastest car in the US for several years after they no longer sold a sports car of any kind. That doesn't include Lexus of course.

2013 Focus ST. Car was a ton of fun, had it through when I was in South Carolina and Vegas. Didn’t do so well in the snow in WI, so that was my excuse. When I bought the car it was between the ST and a Tacoma, wish I had just gone with the Tacoma. I had just moved back to the US after being stationed in Germany and Korea. First vehicle I even had in high school was a hand me down ‘89 Toyota SR5 V6 manual (basically a Tacoma) 4WD my family kept through 265K, only thing that killed it was all the rust from the NH winters.

2015 Chrysler 300C Platinum.....before I had a 2012 JKU.....both being Chrysler products were garbage. I wouldnt even look at a RAM. Dealers were all terrible which made it worse since you were in there all the time. Final straw was a plastic child latch cover in the 300 broke and they wouldn't cover it under warranty. Thats when I decided I was done with FCA for good.
