?

If either was a factory option, which bed outlet would you choose?

  1. 120 VAC inverter-powered outlet (as currently standard on TRD trim)

Haven't used the bed mounted one in the bed of the gen 3 yet, but mounted a 300 watt inverter behind the back seat of my gen1 DC. A few good uses while out camping / hunting:

-charging laptop (has all my hunting GPS info and topo maps on it, so gets used a lot during off hours "strategery" and map scouting sessions).

    -charging handheld radios.

    -charging batts for heated gloves.

    -charging camera / camcorders.

-hook up a 12v charger and charge spare battery for camper while out and about. Always have a fresh battery for camper lights and heater fan this way. (Some chargers have too much inrush and will trip it. The old simple chargers work though). Very nice on extended cold late season hunting trips where the camper heater gets used a lot. Main reason I put the inverter in.

If the gen3 didn't come with one, I'd be putting one in.

You have a lot of high volume tires around the house that need to be filled with a compressor? The only thing I can think of around the house that would need air are lawn mowers, bicycles and wheelbarrow tires, maybe a football or basketball. All of these can be filled up with the bicycle tire pump or small hand pump. I wouldnt want to use the compressor around the house.

I tried to run a baseball pitching machine. It would only do 35mph! It throws 70 from a generator of house voltage.

You named it all. Bike tires and balls (also used it once for an air mattress). Like I said, its a cheap, small compressor. I carry a hand pump when I go biking, but having a small compressor around saves time and effort. To each his own, but I see more versatility in having a 120V pump than a 12V pump.

Please. You're lucky you have a pre-wired factory inverter, learn how to use it. It's one of the most useful tools ever in a vehicle. I've had to wire in aftermarket inverters for the Tundra and the 4Runners. You're lucky you get one pre-wired that you can modify.

It's not for coffee makers, it's for charging batteries, simultaneously charging AA/AAA batteries, jump pack, cordless tool batteries, laptops, cellphones. Learn how to use it, plug a 6-way adapter in and simultaneously charge every battery. Toyota gifted you a 130A alternator, has the amps to run a trailer and run a 400W inverter at the same time. As I said, it's amazing people are still ignorant about how to use it.

They are worth about $10 and are useless for anything that actually uses power or uses resistance. [like a heater or coffee maker]

Now the inverter in my work vehicle.........2500 watts and will run most any high demand power tool you plug into it. [and yes it'll do a coffee maker with ease.] Even used it to power 1/2 my house last power outage.

I used it for a corded drill last week. Worked great. Except I used it after I realized the metal piece that I used the drill to remove had put a 4" scratch in the paint on the bed.

I've only had my taco 2 months and I've used mine for

    1) projected an outdoor movie

    2) plugged my laptop into it and ran the wire into the cab via rear window as I was a road warrior that day hotspotting off my phone. Taking meetings in parking lots between jobs.

    3) stuck my makita battery charger in the cubby and charged my tool batteries on the go

    4) stuck a Bluetooth speaker in the cubby and plugged it in (would work off 5v USB too) so I could listen to tunes on a real speaker instead of my phone while I worked. Sounds better than trying to blast the cab music out the windows

    5) portable work lights (not the halogen kind. Led)

I though about keeping a power strip to expand it but that might be overkill.

^ You are missing a decimal point in your amperage figure. The calculation for Amperage is Wattage divided by Voltage. So 400w÷120v= 3.3 amps not 33

You talk a lot like Trump; repeat yourself over and over in non-complete sentences.

The inverter is the greatest inverter ever. Learn how to use the greatest inverter ever. Because it is the greatest inverter.

Also the reserve capacity (RC) of Stock 3rd gen Tacoma batteries is 125 minutes. You can usually divide Reserve capacity by two and get an approximate amp hour (AH) rating for that battery. So an RC of 125÷2= 62.5 Amp Hours approximately.

No, I was using DC power. I figured that since I had just referenced battery capacity in Ah (and since my graphs were about the battery) it would be apparent that I was referring to DC.
