hey guys im just kinda torn between what to do..should i try to get a 2nd gen and take all of my 14grand that im getting for my truck or should i just buy a 1st gen and have a good chunk of change left over. i really really love the 2nd gen body style it for sure is my favorite looking truck. i also love how its a bit bigger then the 1st gens. however i do love the fact of having money left in my account.

well i really dont know what the smart thing would be because down the road im sure i will want something a bit bigger and the 2nd gen would take care of that..i dont know..i guess i can justify the right thing to do either way haha

If you already feel that down the road you'll want something bigger then I'd go for the 2nd gen

Buy a brand new one, use the money for a down payment and if you have good credit you could get anywhere from 0-5%

I picked mine up used, '08 trd off road dblc short bed with 39K miles last week for $20k. they were trying to sell it for $28K but I kept checking and a month later they had an "internet" price listed at $22K. To me, internet price meaning it's been on they're lot too long and they wanted to sell it before they auctioned it to another dealer. Before this one I was gonna look at an '09 trd sport dblc short bed with 30k miles for $24k but by time i went to look at it they already sold it. Keep looking, there are good ones out there

    The better coast
I think also knowing the specs of the trucks and your needs/use out of them would also be a big thing to look at.

Dont buy a red cab 2nd gen knowing you will need room down the road when you could of bought a dc 1st gen, or settling for a 2wd 2nd gen when a 4wd 1st gen would suit you much better. Just my 2 cents

It goes both ways with a new and old.. 2nd Gen's however, are much better then the 1st gens. Go with what you really want and can handle. Whatever you choose, your still a truck owner right?? =) As long as it's a truck!!!!!! =)

i've heard both as well, but all mechanics aside, the body of 2nd gen is so much more wonderful, that's of course just an opinion

I agree, I do like the styling of the body and 4.0 over the 3.7. But bottom line, i like all tacomas

Buy a 2nd gen, finance 5 or 6 thousand of it. That way you have your savings intact and available if needed to cover the payment, or for other things. It's a good credit builder also, if needed.

As far as the great debate......I think the first gens were better built.....but they are getting older every day. I've been happy with my second gen, probably because I just see it as a good truck, not necessarily as a truck that's going to outlast the cochroaches of nuclear war.
