My TOB has completely driven me crazy so im about to do some work. I don't ever want to have to work on the trans in this pickup again after this.

    • So far I have the URD sleeve ordered
    • clutch is fine but going to replace it with OEM Toyota clutch
    • Resurface the flywheel
What else do I need to have ordered from Toyota.

    Thanks guys

I just did the clutch in my 06' myself last week. Only had 2 issues. My slave cylinder boot was ripped and rotted so ordered and replaced for $12. Also, the flywheel bolts (8) started stretching when I went to torque them. I would DEFINITELY recommend replacing these at $4 apiece from stealership. You don't want to bust those things off trust me. Also, I'm writing this assuming you're doing the work yourself? Make sure you get the Aisin clutch, not the crap LUK kit. P.N. CKT-057.

Yes I will be, Aisin clutch? is that who makes the stock Toyota one?

Also if I just get a clutch, slave cylinder and a pressure plate is that everything that I need?

They put 2 different clutches in these trucks. One is Aisin brand (made in Japan) the other is LUK (made in Mexico). The LUK clutches are garbage and rarely last more than about 50k. I'm on my 3rd clutch in my truck (previous owner went through 2 by 70k) I'm assuming they were both LUK or he just sucked at driving. If you get that kit I referenced earlier, that's got everything you need. Clutch plate, throw out bearing, pressure plate/housing, and alignment tool. I wouldn't replace the slave cylinder unless you think it's bad, mine just had a torn boot.
FYI I got that kit on Amazon shipped for $330....beats getting ripped by the dealer for $1300+

I would absolutely put a NEW slave cylinder on it while I was doing a clutch overhaul.
    Just my 2 cents

Not touching it again is a bit hopeful, unless you plan on selling soon. You should have to touch it again for routine fluid changes if nothing else.

@gearcruncher is the guy to chime in here.

What you are really asking is while the trans is out for a new clutch, what else should be done as PM, correct?

Well yes draining tranny fluid and topping off isn't really something I care about having to do every 50k miles.

but yeah what else do I need to replace, and from searching on here it looks like people have been having problems with the slave spring being to soft.

@Sprockethead Do you know if there a patern to which trucks got the Aisin and which got the LUK? Certain years?

Unfortunately, there is no pattern to which had them from the factory, or put on by the dealer afterwards. Luck of the draw, but if your clutch goes at 30k that's your sign.

ARP flywheel bolts. '05-'07 had the Luk brand. ~'08-'10(?) had the Aisin. Those model Aisin clutches were well known to be notorious for the hub shearing off of the clutch disk. Revisions by Toyota were made and then Luk came back into the mix. Get a better clutch then both of them. Something with at least a little higher clamping load and TQ rating. That way it will last any future increases in weight without issue.

Loctite for the set screws in the sleeve kit. However, URD has a new kit in the making to completely alleviate the design flaws from Toyota. More akin to the T56 style tob.
