Most likely won't complete my second ticket. We moved 4 hours away and my current job won't apprentice. I was working for an electrician doing all of the mechanical work and then everything else electrical. Worked out well for both of us. Then my wife wanted to move closer to her family and I wanted out of the big city. With our profit sharing at work I routinely make as much or more than my base rate in bonus and our base rate is decent. I take home more than the electricians working 40+ hrs at the hall or the Big 3 electricians (or millwrights). If I was younger or the job market went for a dump I would try to complete. Would love to have my electrical masters and be able to do legal side jobs when I retire.

wait ... what... "Army Airborne Artilleyman" ... I thought army was on the ground?? You shoot an artillery piece from an airplane like an AC-130 or the A-10?? You probably think jumping from an flying airplane is fun too .....dontcha... admit it.

We don't shoot from the air, our artillery pieces are usually dropped from C-130s or C17s. We jump out after the howitzers drop and shoot them from the ground.

The gear can sometimes suck to walk with and jump with, if we expect to train for a week or so we usually jump with more than 150lbs of stuff.

 

That's freaking almost as crazy as your spotters job!
Do you jump BEFORE the gun or after?? I would argue for after, or do they just tie you to the gun and you all go at the same time... wooah... that takes cojones, just sayin...

 

Haha we jump after the trucks and guns drop. The plane usually does one heavy pass then turns around for a personnel pass.

...^^^... FWIW. The average number of jumps for an average veteran to have knee problems at 10 years out is: 12 total jumps with minimal gear.

If you are jumping with 150 pounds of gear, your knees with be toast when you get older.

Document those 150 pound loads for later.

 

I've been jumping for 6 years now. I'm at 47 jumps so far. It's most def taking its toll on the knees and back haha

Only about 1/2 have been with equipment though.

 

...^^^... Document .. Document (without looking weird) .. make sure everything gets in your medical records when the back, knees and ankles and etc start getting bad.

Jumpers have an easy time getting a VA/DoD claim awarded .. IF .. they have good info in their medical records ... ... ESPECIALLY AT DISCHARGE MEDICAL ...

PS ... It's always a "delicate balance" of getting everything in the medical record without looking whimpy and losing your MOS.

Oh, your "shelf life" as a "jumper" is relatively short (compared to many other MOS's) ... and DoD budgets for that too.
