b rock you from up north originally because you sure think you know alot. Why you gotta rip on this man's truck??? he was asking a simple question to an audience who may have some input due to dealing with and enjoying tacoma's. he has a nice truck and it has absolutely nothing to do with you....nothing. so a simple compliment or a pm with what you think its worth knowing all the trucks history would have been great. now you have more than scared any potential buyers and give this entire thread a negative vibe. nice i'm sure the op appreciates it as do i.

If you have the rear locker, then you have an TRD Off Road, with TRD SPort hood, and color keyed mirrors, and door handles. If you dont have the rear E locker, then you have a TRD Sport. They are packages done at the factory.

WTF does being "from up north" have to do with anything? WE are all "ripping" on HIM (not his truck) be cause he is misrepresentinig it. Welcome to a Public Forum.

I'll remember that the next time you can't figure out how to dismantle your 1911. Oh, and watch the hole in the floor. :D

You guys are terrible. But he does seem to be misinformed about his own truck which is rather sad. However the fact of the matter is that modified trucks generally will wind up selling for less than stock ones. Sure someone might have the exact same taste as the person who modified the truck and be willing to pay the same (but typically not more) for one that's been modified than a stock one. I would think a dealer would offer more like 12 for a trade in. Sure you could ask 20 from a private sale but you'll have to advertise like crazy and wait forever for someone to buy it. Making modifications to a vehicle is one of the worst investments a person can make. But for many it's their hobby and it enables them to make the vehicle suit their needs and driving style better. Personally I'll be leaving my Tacoma stock. But my Mustang and FJ40 are far from it. Although I don't have any intention of ever selling either of those.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
This is all very interesting! To answer the question, if you sell private party to someone who doesn't know about automobiles' innards, then you might do quite well.

I wanted to point out that in one of your posts you actually got the truck from your dad and not the dealer.

Moral of the story, whatever it is you have, find out what exactly it is and sell it as that. Any mods will help you in the private market, but not necesarily for trade in. Hopefully everything you say is true, but if not some sucker will be on here in a few months asking for help on his truck rev'ing to 4500RPM in drive; and no one wants that.

Pics of the rear locker switch (with something to prove it's actually your truck, like a piece of paper with your user name written on it) or I don't believe you. By all accounts it looks like you simply have a TRD Sport.

i live in an area where tourist from the "north" bring down there nice boats and campers and stuff which is all well and good seeing as though our local lakes one especially are some of finest in country. but the arrogant attitude they bring with them is hard to stomach thats what i meant by my know it all northerner reference. surely doesn't apply to all. and he came on here as a member to learn about mods and his truck in general obviously he doesn't retain much information. but he does have a truck thats legit its been wrecked... twice carfax shows that. any other problems will be diagnosed by the potential buyer at time of test drive/ inspection/ service records from his stealership. i work in the automotive industry and been around it since i was a child and all this little stuff is part of buying a used car. but good looking out for ya tw members im sure they appreciate it but the op doesn't for dogging his truck.

+1 Un less you find someone who wants all that you have decreased the trade in value. Most want to do their own customizing and have no idea if the truck was off road a lot our not. People may make fun of those who don t go off road. But they ure would prefer one used pampered and stock. Preferably never seen a bump in the road
