    Greetings, I’ve been debating about selling my Tacoma. It’s a great truck, built like a tank and it’s never left me stranded. But I’ve grown tired with the drivability of late. I’m a pre runner running 4.30 gears with 33 inch tires and all my work tools in the bed at all times. I have an 06 tundra AC 4.7 that is a pleasure to drive. The smoothness and the way it delivers the power is still amazing. So, would adding a Magnuson super charger be like running a 4.7? I’ve read the specs on SC and yes, on paper they are similar. Can any of you guys or gals give me a sense of real world performance? I figure the super charger when said and done would run me around $6000. Thanks:)

    Some days I think I must be the only person on the planet that thinks the 4.0 v6 has plenty of power and is a great daily driver.

    Sorry, I should have been more clear. I wouldn’t be using the 4.7 out of my current tundra. However if I was able to get a 4.7 out of a 2006ish 4runner. Compatibility wise I think it would be “easier” than a 5.7 swap.

    Stock everything, no extra weight and not towing. I agree.

    I tow frequently. I put in a derale trans cooler.

    Zero issues towing within the vehicles limits - even up into the Sierras. If I’m towing more than 4500 regularly I’d be buying a 1/2 or 3/4 ton pickup.

    Realistic expectations and choosing the right tool for the job goes a long way towards satisfaction with said tool.

    Going further up (down) on gearing isn’t really gonna help either. Somebody on here said it best. You can’t gear yourself out of the limitations of the motor.

    A supercharger is reversible and can be resold later to cover the costs of an engine swap if you are not happy. An engine swap not so much.

    Absolutely! The 5.7 would kick ass. However, I think the whole idea of tearing into a perfectly good truck to swap a motor has me spooked. I’m really leaning towards the SC. And yes, this is about adding power. In the sense of being able to enjoy my truck again. It’s not like I’m racing from light to light or going to the track.

    You’re right.

    Swap = go big or go home

    easy = SC

    S/C smaller pulley, some other little mods and I think you will be more happy with it over a v8 swap. But saying that one guy I know said when he got his s/c he wish he would of just bought a tundra.

    Not even talking about trailers. Tried that with a standard enclosed uhaul and hated every minute of it. Bottom line really is that the second gen Tacoma should have come with a 4.7 option and the 4.0 should of been standard for all models. Damn! I should have been in charge of production:D

    BLASPHEMY! Nobody is happy with a Tacoma, not even my mom and the only thing she hauls is groceries.

    I just really like the size of of my Tacoma it’s got 4 full doors with the long bed. I’m thinking the Magnuson would serve me well. Don’t get me wrong, I like the current tundras. But I like the idea of spending $6000 instead $40,000.

    A Supercharged 4.0 can put the power down. Mine is an auto, stock gearing, 285/75/17 eload mud terrains, plate bumpers and I can still roast the tires on pavement through first gear if i wanted. Cant wait to get it tuned up and geared its gonna be a whole new truck. A 5.7 swap would be badass though (if you have tons of free money and time go for it)

    Thank you for this. How does it feel just cruising? Sustaining highway speed? I’m not a pedal to the floor driver. Just trying to get feedback on drivability. I know what the vvti 4.7 feels like in the first gen tundra. It’s roughly the same size as my Tacoma too. I’m really just going for that feel. Thanks again!

    My vote is for the s/c and a few supporting mods. A modified maggy blower on the taco will be quicker/have higher power to weight ratio than a n/a 5.7 tundra. Dont waste your time swapping things, bolt a blower on and start enjoying the whine:D
