Why do you make a correlation between carrying firearms and having fear of something?

A firearm is a tool. Like the Pocket knife in my pocket, the multi tool in my console or the socket set in the back.

I find it weird that people make the connection of fear and firearms.

Also you never know when you’re going to have a random range session. Might as well carry a few extra boxes of ammo.

I felt the same way at your age. As you get older, your perspective changes, and you become a target.

The first guy, is why I make a connection between Firearms and fear. He's scared of something so he carries a gun because he thinks he's a target. I roll my eyes at that nonsense, because unless you make yourself a target, you're not going to be anyone's target. Hence, the fear totem.

I don't carry a gun, so I don't have random range sessions. If I did, I would just buy my ammo at the range. The price of ammo alone is enough that it keeps that impulse in check. I got better things to spend money on, like a new deck or gravel for my driveway, or coming up with a permanent fix for the vapor lock on my ford 500's fuel line.

I’m just going to rack this up to completely different life experiences. I’ve carried a gun in some sort of capacity for a living since I was 18. I’ve seen all types of people targeted and seen people subjected to great amounts of violence. I’m not in fear of anything. I just won’t be subject to someone with a weapon because I don’t have one.

I keep a tool box with jumper cables, tie downs, and cleaning supplies always in my truck. Oh and dog hair lol can't get that shit out of the carpet so it has become a permanent embellishment on the floor.

Just because you haven’t had an experience where you needed a firearm to defend yourself doesn’t mean it isn’t a justified carry item. I’ve had a pistol in every truck I’ve owned since I was 18. I’ve used it on more snakes than I can count, several feral hogs, a couple rabid animals, an injured horse, an injured cow, and even had to pull it on an attempted armed carjacker. I don’t carry it because I am afraid of anything, but because it is a tool, and it fulfills a purpose like any other tool. I would much rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Has anyone seen those massage chairs at Costco? I wonder if it's possible to retrofit one of those as the drivers seat in the Tacoma. I guess I'd keep that in my truck at all times. Seriously though, sanitizing wipes for the occasional fast food trips and wiping down shopping carts, sunglasses, sun visor, bungie cords, pens and paper, and a drink to stay hydrated during the brutal AZ summers. If it's a longer trip usually food, clothes, ect.

I'm impressed by the "survival kits" that many of you have. Maybe I should step up my game and do the same. :hattip:

I've shot an injured cow. When I'm out on the family farm to check on cattle, I'll take a rifle in case I happen across a rabid animal or need to shoot a coyote that's getting at my aunt's chickens. I've never felt the need to shoot a snake, and here in MO we get a fucking lot of them. We don't have feral hogs, so I'll grant you that. A firearm is a tool, but it's not a tool I've ever felt the need to keep in a vehicle at all times. Different strokes, etc.

NGL, though. The idea of carrying boxes (his words, not mine) of ammo around as well as backup mags just makes me think that guy is hoping to be in a shootout. Spare mag, maybe. Multiple spare mags, questionable. Whole extra boxes, frankly absurd. If you're in a situation where you need to fire more than 20 rounds, I dunno man, just drive away? You're in a vehicle already.

Not sure I should wade into this debate, but as a CHL holder and someone who advocates for the responsible use of firearms, I think I’d tend to agree with you. I carry and keep an extra mag on my person but wouldn’t leave them in my vehicle in an area where my car might be broken in to.

Honestly, I wouldn’t want to be in the position of having to explain to a police officer why I left my AR pistol and 6 full mags in my vehicle along with several boxes of ammo when reporting the break in. I just keep my shit on me.

Granted, odds of it happening in the country are probably slim, but I’ve had tweakers steal shit out of my car out when I’m out fishing in the boonies, so I responsibly eliminate the hazard by keeping my shit on me to be on the safe side, no matter where I am.

See my picture in post #55. I agree with Xero on this one. I ALWAYS keep three or four hundred rounds in the cargo hold. I stop off at the target range every chance I get just to stay "proficient". And at places like Ft Bliss, Ft Leonardwood, and Ft Carson, it's absolutely free to Active Duty, Guard/Reserve, and us Retirees to plink on their Ranges......
