Thought I would finally respond to this post since I was basically being accused of driving around in my Taco in hopes of being in an extended gun battle one day. That could not be further from the truth. Thankfully I have never had to pull my weapon on anybody! The basic supplies and gear I keep stored in my vehicle is to always be prepared to rapidly bug-out of town and head to my mountain cabin. I keep a few boxes of ammo and a few mags in the truck for bug out purposes only. If we ever have to leave and leave in a hurry, I know I will always have a few boxes of ammo that fit my EDC weapon. Actually, the two boxes of bullets in my vehicle are not what you should be giving me grief about, it's the 6 months of freeze dried food I have accumulated at my home and cabin! :)

I guess if you want to accuse me of being a paranoid borderline psycho prepper, then so be it. But I am not some nutcase driving around looking to get into a shootout. But as I have stated before, I am convinced that we are close to having large scale social unrest in America. If that ever happens, it will get ugly fast! And God forbid if this ever does happen, there will not be much time to start packing if you have to get out of town quickly.

Nope. But I’ll never be unarmed. My last out of town trip I had 2 pistols, the 45 and the AR Pistol. Never can be too safe.

Not a single person here keeps breath mints in their truck??
I always have a tin of mints in my center console.
Usually Altoids, but currently I'm working through a pack of Trader Joe's green tea mints.

Aren't Lifestraws cool little devices to keep around? They have come in handy at least three times in the past year and I tend to buy 'em for others that I know like to have woodland adventures.

Of course, but not in my "truck box". They usually hang out on top of the Qi charger spot or in one of the 35 cupholders our trucks have.

Glad you replied. Just because others don't think the same doesn't mean they should assume your intentions. Just curious though, why not keep the ammo (but maybe keep one of the spare mags in truck) at the bug-out spot instead of in the truck?

we have transitioned to the Platypus gravity works filters…. 4 liters of filtered water in less than 15 minutes with no work… we did a 5-day backpacking trip in alpine altitudes (never below 11,600 feet) and ran 50+ liters through the filter for 3 people and a dog… I need to back flush it, but the filter still performed amazingly! I have been hiking in the backcountry for almost 20 years, and this beats anything I’ve tried….

can’t speak for the person you were asking… but I keep at least keep 50-100 rounds in the vehicle so I can shoot with friends when the opportunity arises, or so I can give a new shooter the opportunity to empty a few mags when they might still be craving some supervision or direction…

I guess I should add peppermint altoids minis to the list…. Because they’re always in the truck too.

Fair question, but again it is about having a small (but impactful) amount of critical supplies in the vehicle at all times to bug out with. What if I don't make it to the cabin? What if I need those extra rounds just to improve my odds of getting to the cabin? When contingency planning, you have to think a bit differently.

PS: trust me, there is plenty of "stuff" waiting for me at the cabin. :)

Now I'm all for having a bug out bag, and EDC for self-defense. I do it myself where allowed by law. A few have been giving people shit in here over what I consider sensible behavior.

But you, sir...come off as a complete nutter. And this isn't the first time you posted something that's "off". You need therapy.

I re-read the OP, and I suppose it's not exactly an 'emergency' supply. As I was reading through all the responses, while sitting at my desk, I was running a mental inventory of what I have in my truck and mints stood out as something I've always kept in my vehicles, yet nobody had mentioned. :notsure:

Tow strap, haligan (Thinking about getting a SPAX), bolt cutters, small assortment of tools, tire plug kit, tie downs, gloves, first aide kit, trash bags, jumper cables, fixed blade knife, EDC rooti-tooti (part of the time, as I cannot EDC at my place of work), water filter, sillcock key for spigots used at businesses and public buildings. My priority is getting home where I have a food and supplies. Bugging out would be a last resort and I would be more likely to hunker down, then stand my ground and defend as a last resort. Low profile is my operational theory. There is little upside to leaving other than a fire, toxic conditions or being overrun by a hostile enemy.

We have a lot of drainage channels and access roads around here which are great bypasses to streets. They are all fenced and gated so the bolt cutters are to get past that. If I need to exit elsewhere, I can use the bolt cutters to cut the chain-link fencing. In a disaster, or some civil unrest BS, access/service roads can help avoid problems and get me home.

It’s a good idea to know where these alternate accesses are and where they lead. I know where all the service roads, horse trails, fire roads, washes, and fields are. They are all good alternatives to roads which may be damaged, congested, or blocked by some asshole brigade of the moron persuasion.
