There has been a few comments about plate thickness. Batteries with thick plates are deep cycle batteries. Thin plates and more of them are starting batteries. Thin plates can dump amps quickly for starting. Thick plates can allow for deep discharge without damage. Trolling motors will pull lighter amps for longer and therefore use deep cycle batteries. Marine batteries are somewhat in between. You get longer life from marine and deep cycle but might not have the ability to dump the amps in cold weather for starting. You have to make a choice. If you want to kill a starting battery, discharge it down to nothing a couple of times. Even a deep cycle battery should never discharge down to 40% without damage.

My Kirkland Costco battery is going to be 20 years old this year. I keep it topped up regularly with deionized water.

I have a boat and just today I was charging up my Canadian Tire brand marine batteries and also an AC Delco spare, all deep cycle marine. The AC Delco looks quite a bit bigger, I was surprised when I weighed them to find the ACDelco and the Cdn Tire one weighed the same, about 40 lbs.

I also use Interstate batteries. Costco sells both standard flood and AGM type Interstate batteries with a 3 year warranty. If you go to an Interstate store, you can get a battery with a longer warranty period which can be 60 or 72 months. As someone mentioned- I am nearing my 3rd year on my Costco battery and am contemplating on turning it in for pro-ration credit towards a newer battery.

I stopped buying the Costco batteries when the one I was getting were made overseas. My last one didn't last more than 3 years before it died.

Ya, I noticed that Costco used to sell 48 month warrantied batteries 3-5 years ago and when I when to turn it in for warranty- they now have 36 month warranties. I was wondering if this was due to the amount of batteries being 'pro-rated' under warranty so by lessening the warranty period- it would also reduce the amount of dead/dying batteries coming back to them. I plan to try out Costco's AGM battery next time I am in need of one, unless I can find a similarly priced AGM battery elsewhere.

This is a coincidence. I had a Duralast just go bad on me today. The sticker reads 11/20 so 3yrs 1mo & a few days it lasted. So I went & bought a (N)Everhart. The number of actual manufacturers of batteries has gotten small. The generic Batts like Everstart,Duralast & the P.O.S that O'R@$%'s sells are pretty much identical in terms of quality & lifespan if maintained & you don't run it down alot. I used to swear by Interstate but they have gone down hill in the past few years. I can only say it's not worth the extra money to get the 3yr warrenty. What they don't tell you is that the manufacturer has a 3yr warranty on the battery. So you shouldn't let the sales person hit you for another 25-30 bucks for the store warranty. !REVOLUTION!
