After reading through this thread, I found a lot of people seem to be hooked on the idea that they need some sort of extenison on the Glock 26/27 ect magazines. There in no need to use these. The smaller mags exists to provide a smaller footprint when concealing. Your reload should be a full/compact size mag, not the 26/27 short mag. The grip on most any gun only needs your thumb and bird finger in order to hold onto the weapon's recoil. Don't believe me? Try it. For retention of course it's better to have all your digits on the pistol.

My carry of choice is my G27 with sub compact clip and one in the hole. When it doesn't matter I use the extensions or carry the G19

i’m think i’ll carry a G27, 9mm is a little light.... YES I KNOW shot placement!.... what if you can’t quite get “THAT SHOT” also if 9mm is so much better, why do 90+% of police departments use .40 .45 or 357??

Because a lot of PD's are living in the 90's when 9mm bullet construction wasn't very good and its too expensive to convert a large agency back to 9mm. That and the old, "The FBI uses it." reasoning. Another reason, which is more ligit is that .40 performs better in and around vehicles (barrier blind), which 80% of the time is what LEO's are working around.

As a civilian I've found that 9mm is the best compromise between affordability, availability and performance.

Check out this thread on M4C:

"While obviously load dependent, as you stated, in general the .40 180 loads tend to do a bit better through intermediate barriers, with more consistent penetration, reduced trajectory deflection, less core jacket separation, larger expanded diameter, better weight retention, etc...

For those folks who are consistently working around vehicles .40 may offer an advantage; for the majority of folks whose primary threats are not around vehicles, the greater "shootability" of the 9 mm may prove compelling. oh so the one county around her that has .40 now but is changing everyone offer to guess what? .45, if 9mm was so good than why are they going to a .45? it’s sure as hell is NOT MONEY. if they are going to .45. IMHO what you said "it’s too expensive to convert a hole department to 9mm” is BS. if they can convert everyone to .45 than they have the money to convert everyone to 9mm.

I will say that whenever I bought my pistol I thought 40sw was a lot better than 9mm. Then I started looking at ballistic tests of the loads I'd be CC'ing with (HST's or Gold Dot's) and there really isn't much of a difference to me, other than the fact that mine holds 10+1 and the 9mm version holds 14+1.

That being said I really want to try out the XDs45.

That isn't very large. $130,000 in replacement guns, plus another 5k in mags. Ammo is where the hurt would come from in .45. But most depts don't handout a lot of ammo to the individual officers. The reason they went to .45 may be mission driven though.

My county has 1,200 deputies. I don't see that being spent the way budgets are in FL.

Thanks  interesting to read...I've been unlucky enough to have been on scene of several officer involved shootings and other shootings involving vehicles...we carry .40 and rarely do the first couple shots make it thru the windshield

Dept size makes a HUGE difference when guessing cost to re-arm the entire dept

My particular dept has 700+ sworn officers...there are many here that have less than 50

Smaller jurisdictions typically have more $ they can spend per officer for equipment and training as well

Read the link apricot posted and don't make a guess based solely on what your local dept does

Side note, I wonder where the 45GAP falls in all this as far as post barrier performance is

Florida Highway Patrol uses GAP in their Glocks. I haven't heard any after action reports on it though.
