Okay, so either there aren't any first generation tacomas on this site or we don't have as many problems as the new ones..... :D

Damn it I love this truck! After replacing the shocks, muffler, and sound system, it is truly enjoyable to drive. Now if it just got better gas mileage it would be perfect...

No, that's not a problem, it's still going on.

Mine must be from a Tuesday as it has very little rust on it. ;)

    None, yet.
Mine is too generic looking, but that can be a good thing. Everyone just assumes you are a meter reader or work for miss utility, so they do not even look at me twice.

-Excessive frame flex between the cab and the bed. Wow, looks like the bed might twist right off the frame while driving over a set of train tracks.
-Weak tailgate. I have to remove it every time I load the dirt bike. Not a huge deal, but c'mon, it's a truck. The tailgate should just work. Period.
    -Soft Paint
-Ticking bothered me, but no big deal now that I know it's normal
-Squeaky clutch pedal. It's only a year and a half old!
-Other than that, love my truck

I have found another problem: very weak clutch on the manual trans trucks. Add that as another thing I am going to have to fix on my truck. Will go with a lighter flywheel and maybe a short-shifter also. Also fully-box the frame rails.

Don't make em like they used to I guess
I guess I'll bitch about mine then
$%^ clock (I know, we've all heard it a million times)
    cupholders suck
    Squeaky clutch
    My key broke too
The shift boot seems designed to catch crap that falls off my hands, its nasty
All the little "dummy buttons" and covers that fill gaps where the nicer ones had more doo dads in them. Could someone with a loaded 1st gen post a picture so I know what goes there? Makes me feel like mine's stripped down.

The seats are uncomfortable after awhile, such as on a trip.

The ride is a tad harsh, too, but since I don't usually carry heavy loads, I may put some touring tires on them, and soften that somewhat.

I LOVE my TRD seats. No, it's not supposed to feel like you're sitting in an Audi A8. It's still a truck and it's the most comfortable (mid-sized) truck I've ever sat in. Larger trucks have the space for bigger seats and are more comfortable.

We drive the truck on long trips (8+ hours) because it's more comfortable than the wife's Jeep Gran Cherokee. And it looks better :D

EDIT...sorry, I just realized you both have 1st gens. Again, smaller truck = smaller seat = less comfortable. Yeah, I had an 04 and I wouldn't like that for anything over 4 hours.

2.7 5speed. Wish it had intermittent wipers. Keyless entry. Still not sure about the composite bed. Wish I had more time to drive it. Close to 2 months old and still under 700 miles! Bought on a wim because of cash for clunkers and got tired of waiting for my buddy to sell me his 02 (197,000 miles +)

surprisingly the engine tick doesnt bother me(thanks flowmaster) and i expected the cheesy interior (japanese) but
-the calipers that rub on aftermarket wheels,
    -wheel well rubbing
    - body mount rubbing
    - uca after lift
    - basically i wisht toyota had expected people to lift these trucks and put bigger wheels on them.
-dont even try driving next to pine trees the paint is insta-fubar
-woulda paid for the sunroof but thats whatever
