Perfectly happy with mine! A few of the bitches mentioned above are to be expected on a less than a 19K truck. It's an inexpensive truck!!! BUT, when Toyota starts rippin' you for the add-ons that go on a truck that costs as much as they get for the V-6, TRD stuff and all that. To pay 30+K and still have drum brakes and weak suspension etc. ain't right. Ford, Chev, Dodge or even Tundra beats Tacoma at that point.

First moderate offroading and my springs sound like an old couples bed when screwing. I mashed my exhaust pipe... stupid to have to buy a new crossover pipe and clock the transfer case to get it up to the frame rails.

Toyota is really messing up with this truck. It has such potential as a platform and they could make the most bitchin' truck ever but they just refuse to go ahead and do it. Unfortunately it still takes several thousands of dollars to make it work right after the fairly lofty purchase price.

I think the seats are uncomfortable and the stupid cloth armrests. I still love my truck though!

Had my Taco for half a year, and no one anywhere can help me determine how to get my AST Stereo Mode (automatic volume adjust based on vehicle speed) to work. The knob on the stereo when you keep pushing it goes eventually to the AST mode, and you can select Off, Low, Medium or High. I've tried each level with the engine running, off, or key in the accessory position, all to no avail - help!

I am really disappointed in my radio, I guess maybe it's just the crappy speakers but anyways sounds bad. Actually classic country on the A.M. dial sound about as good as anything. Guess this radio would be considered really good twenty years ago.

The quality on these tacoma trucks has gone into the crapper. My radio / speakers were unbelievably crappy. After it spit a cd back at me for the last time and turned itself off and on several times I had enough. Soft supension and soft brakes are other issues with these trucks. I fixed the suspension but the brakes remain the same. The only way I will buy another one (probably not going to happen) is if they pull their heads out their butt and start doing things right. They need to lose that IFS and go to a solid front axle on the 4wd. They need to power this truck more realistically and offer a diesel. They need to put disc brakes all around and fix the mushiness. Pulling my boat and having to perform an emergency stop definitely has a serious pucker factor associated with it. Does no good at all to [supposedly] be able to pull 6500 lbs. and then not be able to safely stop it. The standard 6-spd. transmission should yield at least the same gas mileage as the automatic.

On the other hand, my truck has no rattles at all. It drives tight and clean (after I fixed the suspension with bilstein 5100's and helper springs on the back) also the shifting has gotten noticeably better after 20000 miles. This truck really has potential to be an awesome little truck but they have got to stop cutting corners and fix some fairly serious issues.

Probably right. Even though a solid front axle for 4wd is vastly superior, it seems that all the manufacturers are going this way. They do this because the decadent american buyers think they need cushy comfort more than they need correctly functioning and bulletproof axles for 4wd. The only case I can see where IFS may be better is for hard-core desert racers where the unsprung weight would be reduced because the differential is afixed to the body of the vehicle. I look under my truck and see that the bump stop is only about 2 inches above the lower A-arm so that plus whatever droop is available is the extent of the travel. Possibly a long-travel setup for IFS would be a good solution but again it costs several thousand to resolve this issue.

Oh well. I like my truck for what I am using it for and most likely will just leave it the way it is. If I was going to start plowing thousands more into it, I will then trade it to get what I should have got to start with. That is my fault not the trucks fault.

The IFS and rear drum brakes. Another terrible design was the extra cab back seats, why in the world didn't they make the seats face each other instead of facing the front seats, they are a complete joke. Other than that the truck kicks major arse!

I hate my Automatic 04 shift handle... It looks like a penis, and my friends make annoying comments every time I grab it to shift the truck into drive.

My Right driver side door also creeks... Im sure WD-40 will do the trick.

I also hate that I have such little space for subwoofers... I can't be too picky about which ones I want now...
