I dont know if this has been added already since im not going to read through every comment, but i HATE the fact that Toyota didnt give the DC a power rear window. That slider back there is absolutly useless to me. I cant reach back there while im driving because its too far away. Complete and total design flaw in my opinion.

Safer to have them come on when truck is started, go off when off and you exit. I do Dislike the milage or lack of. What can I do to up that? I do most of my driving short distances and get 17 MPG if lucky. Also anyone notice that when slowing down to turn, then accelerate again there is a 'slip' sound from the transmission? It sounds like the tranny is not in sync with the RPM's. I don't know.

What I was referring to is the way the tacoma used to be built. They were a simple, bullet-proof little truck that had a solid front axle (4wd model) and were very economical and affordable. Those trucks could be literally thrashed with minimal maintenance and still come back for more. I don't know maybe such a vehicle would not sell very well today. Personally I would buy a truck like that in a second if they would bring it back. Since that is not going to happen, my current taco is a pretty good truck overall.

It's just yours. My A/C is awesome...

I dislike that when I go fifty or above the highway, both outside mirrors vibrate. I took it to the dealer and they drove another 2010 which did the same thing. So..."The mirrors operate as designed...!"

MIRROR GLASS IS LOOSE AND IT'S FIT INTO THE MIRROR IS TERRIBLE...

I understand you have a new truck and feel your mirrors should be trouble free but have you looked at anything after market and maybe something with turn signal flashers in it...I.E. muth mirrors? Just curious!

I'd have to agree on the Cloth Armrests.... Also..

    -Orange gauge led's

    -Weak Tailgate

And the one i don't understand the most....

-The Plastic bed.... I thought it was just a plastic liner when i bought it. This doesn't mean im not going to use it... just gotta use caution on how much you put in it :/

Buuutt.... I still <3 my Taco!

At least that I know of, the Basic or High end audio system for the 2007 Taco didn't come with the cool, basic XM Radio, USB ports or IPod connections. Other Manuf. Trucks came with the basic cool stuff like XM Radio and Ipod connections. Also no lights in the pickup-back area. Manuf. Shocks suck, and seats cold used more back support.

The styling is approaching the Soccar Mom look. It's not nearly as dependable as my 00 Tacoma was. Tailgate may as well be made of aluminum foil, I have stiffened it up by adding steel plate over the plastic (tell me its composite, I'll kick ya) plate. If you slam the doors, it don't have a solid thunk, even my 68 bug had a better feel to the doors, and they sealed better too. Also dummy me got the Sport Model, which has too many automatic things. Only problem is, there isn't much out there in this size class. I'd have bought a HIlux if it was available here.

This is my first truck ever so it's hard to knock on it's truck qualities much, but there are things that just seem inane, especially in a close to top of the line model like the SR5...

Lack of lighted controls for fogs and 4x4 switch, and no indicator for the fogs being on: that's just plain crazy.

Speaking of 4x4: why the knob thing at all? why not a good ol' fashion lever next to shifter and avoid problems from flimsy vacuum motors and linkages that freeze in icy mud roads and break after a few years? Makes no sense for a truck.

Lack of computer readouts: no temp or MPG computer. $.50 worth of LCD in the dash - even bottom line Corollas get it.

Why put the e-brake way over there and make it a double-kick pedal brake? Can't use it for anything but a wheel-chocker. I'd give the e-brake a tug in my Rodeo to lock up the rear LSD in slipperies...can't do that with this. That's nearly down there with Ranger's having column shifters still...

That 4 litre's of engine just seems way unnecessary, especially for the (apparently de-tuned) HP it generates. 3.5's are good for 236 HP and would get better mileage; even a well-tuned 3.0 litre would do well enough. I know it's my fault but I kinda wish I'd looked for a 2.7 now even though I'm not certain I'd be as comfortable with it's power.

I would certainly do without electric windows even in a DC (just an expensive thing to break later on) but really appreciate that they don't require power seats in the SR5 with cruise and power locks.

Location of the lumbar knob kinda sucks: it looks to be wearing out the upholstery already so I just took it off.

Would REALLY REALLY love electric fan(s) vs the belt driven one: it's a help to MPG, it aids in throttle response, and just plain sounds nicer.

Finally, I wish the tacoma wasn't upsized so much in the 2nd gen (seriously...I think it looks as big as an 80's F150.) I loved the looks and size of 1st gens and was really disappointed when looking around. But sadly no one else makes a true 'small' pickup for US market.

Oh: and my windows smell bad. What's up with that?

If they sold 'em in US I probably would have, but I doubt it could overcome the Tacoma's positives...the main ones being: near-on bullet proof reputation for sturdiness/reliability and wide availability of inexpensive parts and mods. In the latter respect, it's more like an American truck than a Japanese.

But since you started the dreaming: if Toyota sold the Hilux in the US I'd be driving one of those; especially with that amazing diesel they come with in the EU.

I was commenting on this part of your blog and that's where I brought up the diesel comments. The Hilux is a four cylinder as well and I can't remember the size of engine but that is what I was referring to....wasn't trying to hijack the thread.....

I think the 4 litre engine is seriously underpowered for this truck. The new tacoma is basically a bit smaller full-size truck. It is powered OK for regular driving around but start towing anything more than half a ton and it really becomes apparent immediately. Plus the gas mileage when towing even moderate loads goes down dramatically which is another sign of being underpowered.
