Also I dislike the sliding rear window.. I wish it the entire back glass could go down like the Tundra.. and it had a sunroof.. or T-Tops

Six pages later and no one has mentioned the huge freakin' calipers on these trucks that keep you from buying some decent 16" wheels! Guess it's because I'm looking these days...

I've run into this problem as well, I pack a 14 shoe size and I often hit the gas with the brake.

Same problem really or many have a 9" width which makes no sense to me. A wheel that wide should start with a 33/12.5 tire meaning 3" lift or better. BTDT and I don't need or want that much lift this time although I may end up there.

I have a GREAT Gen 1 daily driver that I love in every way - no complaints whatsoever. What I do dislike is how MANY complaints you Gen 2 drivers have about your trucks. You give Tacomas a less than stellar rep in the minds of the unwashed masses with all your moaning and groaning.. Cut it out will ya!!!

the weak ass tailgate sucks. nothing major that i don't like though. maybe just a few small interior modifcations but thats it.

    I just sold my 99 Taco Gen 1 truck. # of Gen 1 complaints = 0

After 2 months of owning new Taco. # of Gen 2 complaints = 6 and counting.

Toyota is on the way to becoming the next Ford or GM if they keep this up.

Don't get me wrong... I love my Taco. They just don't make them like they used to. I will be looking to buy a used Gen 1 Taco soon though. I miss my old truck.

Know what you mean. I'm on my 5th Toyota truck, and the one I drove for 6 years before picking up my current '03 double cab TRD SR5 was a Gen 1, a '98 TRD SR5 extended cab. All my Toyotas have been literally bullet proof in every way, and the guy who bought my '98 with just shy of 100k on it loves it just as much as I did.

The only reason I went from the '98 to the '03 was to get into a double cab setup. I had the option at the time to get into an '06 double cab instead, but I'd heard enough complaints about the Gen 2's by then that I opted to stay with the '03 instead. I gotta say as I listen to a lot of the Gen 2 crowd bellyaching about their trucks that I'm really glad I made that choice!!

I wish the bed had D-rings at all four corners and the tick. Other than that it's a great truck

it's really better in every way than my old 1988 toyota 4x4...which was a tacoma before they made up the tacoma name...man i loved that truck..got 300,000 miles on it before i sold it...lol....as far as the new one i can't believe it still has drum brakes in the rear but not a big deal...the stock tires and rims are too small 16x7 and 245/75/16 tires.....should come with 16x8 with 265/70/16 standard...which is what i got on it now....two more tie downs in the bed floor up front would be nice.....having to buy new tire pressure sensors for alloy wheels kinda sux when they are $100 a piece....should be the same kind on steel or alloy wheels so you can use the same ones if you change wheels....make that compartment by your left knee more suited to hold your spare change....maybe a 6 cylinder for a regular cab would be cool or a supercharger for the 4 cylinder...lol....but that would lower the gas mileage i'm sure so not a big deal

something i've noticed...all engines that last a long time seem to have ticking in them so it's worth it...lol

Only thing I hated about my 08 Tacoma was the stock Dunlop tires. They had to go! Got Michelin's and now I'm happy.

no tailgate lock, no hood struts, steering wheel needs to go WAY higher (I constantly engage the wheel lock every time I get out of the truck)...

    NO REAR DISC BRAKES!!

engine ticking isn't a problem when the stereo volume is over 49 :D
