I honestly dislike how much I love my Tacoma

I try not to let possessions get too much of a hold on me but the old girl just puts a smile on my face.

That said: The limp noodle seatbelt retractor on my NIB replacement can pound sand:frusty:

My 1996 Ext Cab 4wd 2.7L: Could use a bit more power. No odometer. Seat belt retractors are lazy. Oil filter is in a tight space. Critters keep chewing on my fuel return line at the sender right above the tank.

My 2023 TRD Sport: Don't like the hood scoop. Only 1 USB data port. Would have preferred an Access Cab, but they seem to be forbidden in my sales region. I've only had this truck for 4 months and am liking it mostly. Oh, I forgot - I wish they installed a locking gas cap.

My radio and illuminated interior bits reflect off the back glass and it's super distracting in the night time.

Other than that nothing more than i was expecting! (low power cuz 4banger, and no seats haha)
I love how small and nimble the truck is navigating LA, it gives me a lot more freedoms to go exactly anywhere I want in Cali.

I came from a BMW X5, so I was well aware it would be a downgrade in a lot of ways.

    Annoyances:
Cup holders were solved with a ZPrecision upgrade and 3d printed inserts

Why are only the front doors unlocked by touch? Should be on rear doors also.

3 blinks of the soft touch blinkers drives me up a wall. Its not enough blinks to catch the attention of most drivers. Should be 5.

No memory settings for elec seats. Really?

Being notified every time something enters the cruise radar. I.DONT.CARE. Just do what you're supposed to do!

Passenger airbag light location. Too bright, distracting.

    Complaints:
    Auto-transmission. Nuff said.

    Fuel economy… Small tank… Cup holders…

I have a 70 mile r/t daily commute. Empty comes up fast and often.

Someone else said they hate how much they love their Tacoma.

That’s the problem here too. Objectively it’s a terrible vehicle for my 90%+ use, and I have another vehicle for towing and hauling.

My love for it is what has kept me from selling it and buying a Camry.

Having to hit my key fob several times to unlock the doors is kinda annoying.

This can be adjusted. Just need a Carista. Some dealers may do it for free.

rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.
I dislike the "Baja Racer" protracted front end.
I dislike the short 6 foot bed.
I dislike that the Taco is not offered in "cab and Chassis" configuration.

Why cant it be styled like Ford Econo-line front end with a drop side flatbed out back?

    A proper UTE!

My truck was a gift from my parents back in September 2009, when I got my learner’s permit, and it had the only three options you could get in 5-lug RC in 2010; A/C, automatic transmission, and a sliding rear window…

Yes, A/C was an extra cost option until 2011!

So, I didn’t realize until two days after we brought the truck home that it did not have intermittent windshield wipers; I was also thoroughly unimpressed with the quality of the factory stereo.

I added a rudimentary (but far better than factory) aftermarket stereo with new speakers in 2013 (which has since been upgraded to a killer system with touch screen radio, backup camera, powered subwoofer, and external amp).

In 2016, I finally added intermittent wipers.

In 2021, I had OEM-style cruise control installed.

I was obviously single when I got the truck, but I’ve been dating @Stitchgirl90 since January 2023. When we got on long trips in the truck, we wish we had a backseat, but at today’s interest rates I would rather have crank windows and no backseat than an access cab Taco with 8% APR on the monthly payments; I looked, and the estimated interest rate on a used car with my credit (783 is my score) is up to 9%!

    2014 Tacoma 040 SR5 4x4 DC SB V6 AT5 Tow Pkg Entune+ Mostly stock with a few OEM mods.
Stock (99.999%) OEM Bed Floor Mat, Front Bed Rail Cargo Net and hooks, Auto-Dim mirror w/Compass and outside Temperature display, TRD Pro Grille, Uni-Filter air pump modification, WeatherTech floor liners f/r. (winter) OEM All-Weather floor mats (summer).
Almost nothing in the truck is back lighted or illuminated: glove box, outside mirror controls, under-hood lamp, illuminated 4WD dial/control, power window and door-lock switches, no courtesy lamps in the foot wells, no outside door mirror puddle lamps, center console cubby lamp, rear-seat reading lamps. These were standard fare in 1980's domestic trucks.

And last but not least: no bed lamp. Jeeze-Louise: Ford/Chevy/Dodge/Yugo had this as either standard or a $10 option in the 70's/80's for cry-eye.

One more: no heated outside mirrors, even as an option?

This (mine) was a $32,000 truck new in 2014 (plus destination). It should have this stuff. Likely less than $25 to add all this to the bottom line.

[EDIT] Don't slip up and let the little metal complicated bulb-holder spring clip drop into the headlamp while you're blindly trying to squeeze it into and kee the ends in the tiny holes while you try to get the other end in the tiny slots.

Pulling the headlamp(s) to retrieve it will ruin your day, and probably the following one too. :annoyed:
