Maintenance Engineer for a Golf/Condo facility. We have a 54,000sq ft club house, two pools, a tennis shop w/5 clay courts, and two outdoor bars. I get to deal with a fleet of 74 electric golf carts. Also two condo buildings with 48 units each. I am NOT involved in any of the grounds work at the golf courses. We have full time greens and grounds crews for that. I run a crew of 8 full time employees, and deal with over 30 regular sub-contractors. This has been my gig since 1990. Prior to this, I was self employed, doing spec home building. Also own 8 rental homes and do my own service/upkeep on them. Summer means 90 to 100 hours a week at times. Winters are a little more laid back.

Haven't checked in on this thread in ages. I'm between jobs now, doing a little contract work as a petroleum geologist in the meantime. Tight job market at the moment, but have an interview tomorrow.

I got the job! Well actually found out two weeks ago just never posted. Start in another month or so (after Labor Day). Its a bit of a paycut (not much) but be less physical of a job (on the body) and be better health wise in long run. Plus theres only ~120 total people including supervisors and 2nd levels so its a smaller group of people (out of 13k who work for the company)

I started a company when I was 30 with the intention of working my ass off for ten years, selling, and retiring at forty. I got off to a great start and was on track to do exactly that.

Unfortunately I was on the road ALL THE TIME and it was really rough on the family. My kids were little and I had to make a choice between money or family. So I sold early for way less than I could have ultimately made and went back to working for the man.

I'm forty two now and getting a couple of new revenue streams up and running. I'm now targeting 52-55 for retiring.

I hope it works out. You're doing exactly what I want to be doing.
