I'm a Calibration and Instrument tech at a large Pharma company. I work in the utilities department. I got lucky and got in on the ground floor of building a new vaccine plant. It's been cool to see it from the earliest stages, to now where we are just starting to produce pediatric vaccine. I'm not much of a mechanic anymore though, everything is automation work. I do get to work with a great bunch of guys though. We have a serious job, but we have a blast doing it.

Congratulations to both of you. I was newly married going through school. It was a strain. The additional income is a big plus. Best of luck to the wife; orientation sucks, but if she stays focused, she'll get through it.

I change oil while in school to be a Rad Tech. I also lifeguard at the local YMCA, been doing that for 7+ years, nothing like getting paid to sit around and study.

On a side note I just found out that I won't be starting clinicals for another 2 years :(

I stand around and watch stuff blow up, and get to look around other people's houses.

I'm a vibration specialist, I do vibration monitoring of various construction activities, which includes blasting. I also do pre-blast/pre-construction surveys of existing buildings prior to construction activities beginning to document the current condition of the structure.

Currently, I'm the lead technician on a project in RI to upgrade the distribution lines that run along the Tennessee Gas Pipeline right of way. They are drilling foundations for towers that can be as close as 10 feet from the gas line. The gas line is a 16" 750psi gas line. If there is a rupture near me, I'll be unlucky to say "Oh". If I'm really unlucky, I'll get to finish the expression.

I'm the co-owner of a company that supplies hardware (nuts & bolts, body clips, etc) to dealerships, repair shops, & body shops. I used to be a service advisor for Toyota, but got tired of the schedule. Got into hardware sales due to my automotive background. Worked for a company for a couple years, but got tired of working for someone else. Ended up going into business with a guy I knew that worked for one of my competitors.
