    In training my goldie, when I taught him the command "NO" I only used it when I meant it, life or death so to speak. If he started to head for the street a firm "NO" would stop him dead in his tracks. If he snapped at me or anyone I would use the "NO" with a finger point at his nose and again he would stop. He never did it more than a couple of times.
    I never used the "NO" command for get of the couch or go back outside and so on. I always talked to him like he understood what I was saying. That "NO" was reserved for stop what you are doing right now.
