I like the way it looks as it sits but that's just me. I thought about running LED's but decided against it in the end after I did some research.

I've got the exact BLHM as you with the exception of the lens over the DTRL.
This Picture was taken with a clear silverstar bulb. I have since put the factory amber back in and I love how it looks now (I'll try to get a picture later today).

Thanks Skeeter, I've always used VLED's for my other bulbs, but not any that are this expensive and complicated and this info helps alot. Not sure about the dimming aspect. When I turn on my headlights, my DTRL's shut off completely, simply becoming turn signals.

Is this the bulb kit you bought from VLEDs? Would you say this bulb runs less hot than the standard 3157 that comes with the truck in DRL mode?

Those are the ones I bought. I'll be honest i never felt my stock ones, so i couldn't tell you. The control/resistor pack gets pretty warm, so you have to mount it against metal. The bulbs have pretty massive heatsinks sticking out the back of them, So heat inside the actual housing shouldn't be too bad. It must be a 2012 and up thing to have the dtrl's on with headlights. Oh and one thing there's a little delay with the turn signal switching back to white after you use it. Mine stays amber for about 2 seconds after the turn signal shuts off before switching back to white. looks kinda funny to have 1 white and one amber light on at the same time for a bit, but i really don't have a problem with it.

You mean it's better with the amber DTRL than the white?

I personally think so. I'll let you be the judge. I should have taken the picture of the truck outside of the garage but it is sunny as shit here today and I was afraid it wouldn't turn out right.
It looks cool as shit running down the road though.

I have to agree, especially with the BHLM, because the white on this mod is too light

I went to order those V3 Tritons and of course VLED is out of them. Every time I want something from there it's back ordered. Out of an abundance of caution I checked my DTRL's. Lenses looked good, no cracking or scorching. Checked the wiring, nice and supple with no discoloration. Pulled the bulbs and the sockets and bulb ends are scorched tan/brown. Checked the bulb # and they are the 4157's. Switched em back to 3157's so I'm not SOL.

Hey dude where did you get the lens in real glasses for your DTRL? So it is not plastic anymore and don't melt?

If I knew earlier, I wouldn't make a LED dtrl mod with all the modifications.....

I don't completely understand but I assume you mean this?

When I did the BHLM I just removed the plastic lens and never put it back in. I painted the portion behind the DTRL so there was really no reason to keep it. Is that what you were talking about?

Yes that is what I was talking about, I thought you put back a custom lens in real glass instead of plastic that melts... It is good to know that, I don't know if I'll remove mine. Do you have to take apart the whole headlights? I don't have any oven that big to fit a headlight :(

Yes.. you have to take the lens apart from the housing then the bezel from the lens to paint. Then reverse the process. And.... you will need a full size oven

I bought the same setup DTRL kit from jumper on the buy/sell section. $92 and they are amazing, yes they need resistors but it's still an easy install and even for me who knows nothing about automotive wiring

Finally got my V3 Triton switchbacks from VLED's. I ordered them on a Saturday, and had them on Wednesday. I had switched out my regular incandescent bulbs (pretty sure they were 4157NA) because they had started to turn the bulb socket light tan from the heat. I put in 3157's and had checked them over the course of my last post. Those got so hot, the orange coloring started to flake off! I also noticed that there was a heat discoloration on the upper chrome part of the turn signal housing (sort of like smoke rising).

Now I can have the truck run all day and these things barely get warm. I checked the control box and the heat sink for the bulbs, and it's just warm to the touch. I can keep my hand comfortably there for a long time. I don't have an infra-red thermometer to give anyone exact degrees, but it's nothing like the stock bulbs. Switchback function is frickin awesome too.

They're pretty awesome. I've had some people around town ask me where I got them. Have you wired in the dimming feature for when the headlights are on?

They are awesome! I've got an '05, my DRL's/turn signals don't light up when I turn my headlights on. I just put liquid electrical tape over the ends of the wires to keep them from corroding.
