Not this guy. I use Mobil HM 5W30 full synthetic and previously used Mobil AFE 0W30. I used to get a start up tick with toyota oil filters, now I use Mobil One filters, K&N and Puloator Synthetic filters.

Where are you getting that? I've never seen a 0w40 or 0w30 on the shelf (I do see it listed as an M1 product).
Maybe try moving to a 5w30, which would be the proper weight for a 1st Gen. The "0" may be too light when cold.
Curious what prompted you to go with 0w40 in the first place?

Your correct ticks are usually cause by the filter. I thought that the toyota filter was the best for our engines tho.

There ok. The filters are made to Toyotas specs. Just like TRD oil filters it's just a rebadged K&N oil filter for about double the price from my understanding. From the filters I've used above I get no tick.

I did a lot of research about the 0w-30. It's a new thing. It's really better because it's a lighter oil at startup then 5w, which provides better lube at startup. Bob the oil guy has a writeup about 0w multi weight oil. Pretty good read. It's stamped on the bottles provides warranty protection on vehicles that are supposed to run 5w-30, but it gets better mpg. I was gonna try it this oil change but walmart was out of the 5 Q jugs

I would be inclined to agree, however, your engine was designed to run on 5w30. Not 0w30, and not 0w40.
If you are getting "ticks", then move back to the recommended weight on your oil cap, and work from there.
Don't blame Mobil-1 for noises from your engine if you are running outside of the recommended grade, regardless of what BITOG says.

I run any high mileage synthetic at factory specs every 3500 miles no oil leaks here or ever (except when someone stole my cat and cut the line) and I never hear ticks.

Oh I'm not blaming Mobil-1. But I have read a lot of threads where people were complaining about top end ticking when they switched to m1 5w-30, and I will say I believe my intermintent tick has gotten louder and more frequent. And really 0w-30 won't harm the truck. It's a better weight I believe use because it provides better lube at cold start. I believe some cars even call for it from the factory now. And you do have to remember that 0w-30 wasn't invented at the time of the 3.4 liter. Really the best thing to do for engine oil is always keep the 2nd number in engine spec, but you can change up the 1st number depending on the temps of where you live

The first number is cold flow. I didn't see improvement in fuel economy. I would try a different oil filter and see if the tick goes away.

I'm not bashing Mobil 1 but I have saw on various forums where people used the same weight they was using before but using Mobil 1 they had ticks where they didn't with other brands. 5w-30 Mobil 1 is one of their "ok" weights and they aren't something to right home about because other brands 5w-30 have better wear characteristics but its still a good solid oil. Mobil 1 0w-40 is one of their best weights and it is labeled "European Formula" and has better start up flow compared to 5w and it is a very thin 40w according to BITOG and will shear down to a 30w very quickly to remain there for a good 5000-10000 miles. Using this 0w-40 is just a experiment though, I just wanted to see if the tick got worst, improved, or stayed the same. Oh btw I picked it up at my local Wal-Mart.

I have heard the same about m1. I might have to try the 0w-40 next time. How you like it so far? Any ticking?

It's done great so far. It still does tick a little but I not to bad. It could be the Toyota oil filter like others have stated. I'm not really bothered by the ticking, only it was knocking that would be a different story.
