when there isn't much work going on?

My boss has a whole bunch of work lined up for me and my co-worker. Until we got word that all contractors are not allowed to work in the fab because one of the electricians blew up a electrical panel in the fab... I heard that the person who wired that electrical panel will be banned from Triquent Semiconductor for the rest of his fricken life. The company got lucky though... They were so close to getting kicked out for good because one of their employee screwed up. All contractors have to take a UA test, then go through a training course through the TQ. Haha. It amazes me that someones screw up can effect everyone else.
I think this is one of the biggest reason why I want to change my career. Usually when Fall rolls around the corner we get extremely slow... Sometimes we don't get work for a few months... I am starting to regret that I even got into the low volt electrical trade. I hate not working. Haha.

hmm I usually hang with friends or play soccer or extreme frisbee. At night write poetry and listen to Michael Buble and think about existentialism and the fundamentals of life. OH and A LOT of masturbation.

I'm kind of in that situation - I'm doing software validation testing right now, so I have to wait for builds to be released. On occasion, that also means I have to reinstall the operating system(s) and apply MS updates before I can get to the test.
If my job allowed for it, I would see about helping a different department, but there's no opportunities. I also like cleaning and organizing my work area, but we have lab managers for that, and I usually find myself ignorant of safety laws so I've learned not to try doing much (we make OSHA look dangerous).
In all, I can have several hour stretches of downtime and I'm expected to be available at my computer station.

    As a result, I'm either

-browsing around here, hopefully finding a deal or a mod to do (currently doing the 4x4 lighted switch, in-cab winch control comes next).
-Using the Kindle app to read books
-Watching company training videos no one else gets the chance to watch.

Today, I'm waiting for a motherboard to arrive, so I've been spending the downtime watching tutorials on Agile and Lean project management philosophies. Most of it has been pretty lacking in content, but I'm just getting to the Sizing and Estimating video, which gives strategies on how to organize a project with reliable time estimates - I'm really interested in where this one is going.

Playing video games though can be a waste of time. AFter I am done play Reach for a couple hours I kinda feel bad because I should have been doing something productive.. Haha. I would rather be helping someone with a prject then sitting on my butt playing video games..

I can't while at work - it's against my contract. I get caught = less work. I'm REALLY hoping I hear back from my latest interview. I'd be doing some really cool work at a badass company.
