I’d swap mine for an EV version. I think it’ll look nice next to my tesla :anonymous:

Yes, but depends on the vehicle. I’d buy a used Tesla in a heartbeat. That’s said, used Teslas are going for more than or pretty much the same as new, so I’d just buy new if I had to today.

I’m not buying a used Nissan Leaf if I want to actually drive the thing

so it’s pretty much the same call as for used ICE vehicles

Adding that the battery can be charged 1000 times while maintaining 80% of its original capacity. Should get us 800,000 miles before the batteries need replacing.

Also the battery doesn’t turn into a inferno when ruptured.

Depends. How many threads on here do you see guys with trucks over 200k that have never had a major problem? And we’re not talking about maintenance over the lifetime of the vehicle because it’s going to need that too we’re talking about buying a used vehicle that you know is going to need a very expensive battery replacement. And with the current battery technology the maximum capacity is going to decrease overtime the range is not going to be the same as when it was new it’s just the way it is. And then you have to consider the market itself and the demographic. How many people that are in the market for an electric vehicle are going to want a used one? People that want one of these are people that buy new. The battery technology might improve overtime but right now I think selling 22 ev in 32 is not going to be easy.

Tesla Models S and X with 200k on them still have 80% of their range capabilities. That is where they get the 300k-500k before replacement. Additionally the only maintenance is brakes, tires, and suspension components. I'd buy a used EV with 200k miles that still had 80% range before I bought a Tacoma with 200k miles. The EV would still be cheaper to maintain.

Need a new engine for my 1st Gen…when everything is said and done be around $10K, long block alone is going to be near $7K with shipping, also put $6K into repairs last year as well, probably another couple grand for some odds and ends on it too.

That doesn’t include all the repair dollars over the 20 years I have owned it either.

Not worth the effort. Especially since most 5VZ-FE are getting long in the tooth. If we are going to do it, we are going to do it right. Jasper is a little cheaper, no inventory currently, plus they don’t use genuine Toyota parts. Could do JDM, still a crap shoot with those.

Tried talking the wife into selling the truck the way it is, plus another vehicle we have and buy new, however she barely drives 3000/year. Said no point and getting a brand new vehicle. She really isn’t into vehicles anyway. I don’t think it is worth it, that is what she wants to do…

What do you want in an electric Tacoma?
    Nothing.
No plans to go electric. I worked in a dealership and saw what going electric is going to cost you when they break.
Mechanics laughed and said "These poor fools buy these cars thinking they are going to save a bunch of money until it breaks. I sure hope they were saving it because they will need it to make the repairs when needed."
I hope there will be other options eventually but for now I have 3 fuel efficient cars with low miles that are paid for. I'll make do with the price of gas.

Don’t think anyone is thinking they’ll save any money, buy-in cost alone is fairly high. It is like diesel guys thinking they’ll save money because it gets better fuel economy over a gasser. Just look at the midsize/half ton diesel effort they are all but dead since they aren’t a huge seller. Specs are great, but up front and future repair costs shy people away. Hell, a diesel Colorado makes more sense for the stuff I like to do, I won’t buy one with my money though.

Sure the EV proponents will try to sell you on that it is cheap to “refuel”, however overall cost of ownership won’t be. Fairly sure when EVs take up a majority of the market, utility rates will sky rocket. Guess you could have your own closed loop energy system at your home, but you’re giving money to some corporation. Just have to decide who you want to give it to.

I can do it, but I don't fucking like using those things in high performance builds anymore. We just finished a 12.2:1 compression 498 Chevy Big Block and I'm about ready to throw the damn Holley Dominator through a wall, EFI is way more accurate and ultimately will make more power under the curve and have the same top end HP number.
