Exactly!! You totally understand!! That's our point of discussion at work. And you gotta remember - they do allow a certain amount of percentages to NOT be organic. So if the cow or chicken is eating organic grains, how are we assured the grains are organic?

They tell us at the warehouse that organic produce has to be kept separate from non organic. But how do we know the containers they come from are not contaminated? Or that the trucks they arrive in did not have non organics in transported? Or the "baths" that apples and such go through - how often is the water changed and are they the same baths that non organics have been in? How about the conveyor belts? Has non organic touched them? It goes on and on.

There's all kinds of areas to touch upon.

    One more dose of depression...

...your daughter is drinking municipal water, correct?

There is so much estrogen (and thousands of other chemicals/pharmaceuticals) in the water supply that she is already being affected hormonally.

I've been working on my Masters of Education (middle school science) and have participated in tons of classrooms... and most 11 year old girls have relatively large breasts for their age. Scary.

Not to mention male impotency is way up too.

ADD? Could it be all the caffeine in our water supply that kids are drinking?

How about the massive chemical cocktail mixture of every pharmaceutical that we're all drinking? What's that doing to us?

Sure it's all in ppb or ppm for now... but if we drink a lot of water, we're getting a lot of a small dose on a daily basis.

And before you think bottled water is the solution, that industry is FAR less regulated than municipality and more often than not, it's just bottled tap water anyway.

Okay... time to swallow a bullet :(

And "purified" bottled water does not have fluoride. Which is even worse.

It sucks, Krazie. We do what we as parents think is the best for our kids and sometimes we get fooled by advertising and "word of mouth".

I drove myself nuts trying to research all of this. But with all of the processing, there is always some kind of additive - be it for flavor, preservatives, whatever.... it's a tough thing to face, it's hard to face that little by little their bodies are being contaminated. Ours too!

Now my kids love Hot Cheetos and Top Ramen. The worst things ever. I don't buy it. But they eat it at their friends house or buy the stuff themselves. Can't control it, they are exposed. :(

Wanna go down the rabbit hole even further?

Every year I attend the South Platte River Forum (the South Platte River basin is what feeds all of the Denver metro area plus some). Water out here is huge... we basically live in the desert and are trying to supply scarce water to several million people.

In Boulder Creek (where I live) there has been an ongoing study of trout for the past 11 years or so. They are testing the gender of fish they catch from the creek. Since fish live in water they are very susceptible to any chemical changes in water, namely endocrine disruptors.... blah blah blah... get to the point.

Want to know how many male, true male, fish this one group has pulled from the creek in the past 7 years?

    Zero.

By the time the fish matures it has been inundated with so much estrogen from waste water effluent that it literally changes gender. They are actually starting to see gender mutations occurring in the eggs now too.

And yes, we drink that water.

We can still do one thing.

    Buy "real" food.

Yes, there's always going to be some kind of partially hydrogenated oil or some shit like that... but at least it is hydrogen and real oil.

Buying the shit that is purely synthesized is easily avoidable.

Which leads you to think about other things too.

A few decades ago you never heard about autism or ADD being as rampant as it is today. Or the rise of cancer in certain areas, such as Marin here in NorCal.

True, and I have done a LOT of that while raising them. But they are older now and BECAUSE I have been so astringent, they are enjoying the freedom of eating anything that they did not when younger. Granted, I wasn't so strict where they did not enjoy their childhood but making their own decisions it's akin to suddenly having freedom. :(

And the thing is, they KNOW why it's bad for them. They tell me that they don't feel any different when eating that stuff. Well.... one says he gets hyper...

My mom never allowed soda or sugar cereals in our house.

I vividly remember the first sleep over I had at a friend's house where they had Fruity Pebbles in the pantry.

I must of pounded at least 5 bowls of it. Hell I remember chugging the purple-gray milk at the end of that crack session as if it was actual nectar of the gods.
