Cool shot. I never did anything artsy. Just Japanese and local weddings (but got pretty artistic with that) golf tourneys (used to be corporate photographer for Sony Tokyo) and Hula festivals.
When I first started out, everything was medium format hassleblads, then Dennis Reggie made photojournalisitic weddings popular and everybody wanted that so we had to invest in 35mm. Then of course digital was more practical and had to get all new bodies. But we had to have the latest and best bodies ever year anyway. People complain about how expensive digital cameras are, but they cant compare to a hassleblad.
The first days of digital was rough though. I remember our company was paying something like $30K for a 2 megapixel Kodak!

Oh god, I remember those days. I did a lot of shooting for fun over the years but the Crosses stuff ended up hanging as a solo show a few years ago, full digital, most of these shots had 40-60 hrs of post work put into them.
Yep, 120-220 Hasslsblad, all the wedding guys shot that. Worked in a large custom lab when I was younger. Always considered myself a film purist, digital still doesn't compare in subtleness. Kodak 64 was the shit. I liked Ektar too, cooler on the tones, used to shoot night stuff with 125. Learned how to use a view camera, now THAT'S real photography right there. 4x5 and 8x10's gotta know your craft well to make that come out great. Can't duplicate a lot of what Ansel Adams did with medium and SLR's because you can't change the point of focus like you can on a view camera. One of these days I want to get another view camera.

Now that is art. I never got to play around with view cameras much. Adams is the view camera god. My favorite camera had to be my 503CW with the winder (too noisy for wedddings tho) 90 degree viewfinder, and 120 macro. Incredible for portraits. I wish I kept some of the hass stuff. Now all I have are these digital toys. I am completely out of photography tho. Been about 5 years now. I rarely pic up a camera. I still get calls for Sony Open and hula festivals. Sadly I turn them all down.
