What does it feel like owning/driving/being seen in a Tacoma versus another truck?

There are plenty of types of truck guys:

    • Diesel bro-dozer: that think the more filth you belch into the sky, the cooler you are.
    • Gasoline lifted bro-dozer: with an extremely loud exhaust system. Usually big V8 trucks, usually enjoy real tree camo and country music.
    • Working man: usually a white 2wd truck full of equipment for work
    • Grandpa: an old truck, at least 25 years old, usually a GM, very rusty, very slow. But he keeps it going, just like his old body. He and the truck have that bond.

    then there’s:
    • Midsize Truck guy: doesn’t have a small penis, so doesn’t need a 12” lift and wheel spacers and a V8 in order to compensate. He occasionally goes off road exploring or camping. He occasionally needs a truck bed for household reasons, otherwise he’d have an SUV.

How do I feel being in a Tacoma and not those others? Reasonable. Practical. Secure. Capable.

If I have my dirty sandy salty kayak in the bed. And if my insulated fish bag is leaking bloody ice water...I feel like I'm on top of the world. Looking down on creation.

It’s funny because those full sized sky jackers at a stop light they will look over and stare at my “baby” truck. Some are thinking wow that’s nice and others are thinking what a poor schmuck who couldn’t buy a real truck. Either way, could care less. It is fun however to pull up next to a full size stock truck and be level with them. Probably pisses them off

How do I feel, really - You almost had me OP, or should I say Potsch. You stay away from Toyota's!

The only thing I feel is that I made the right choice. I sat down and worked through a logical comparison, like an adult. I didn't buy my truck because it makes me feel all giddy or something. Buying a $40k vehicle based on feelings would be stupid.

In my experience, here's a specific mystique about Toyota trucks that other trucks don't quite have.

I think it's the idea that I could decide tomorrow to drive across the Kalahari, or through a desert battlefield, or through the deepest jungle and the truck would just do it. That I can fix it with a hammer and a 10mm socket, whether that's actually true or not.

That the Tacoma has inherited the DNA of the legendary Land Cruisers of the past, including reliability and capability. The fact that Tacomas are rougher and more spartan than other trucks is a big part of the appeal. I think it goes back to that Land Cruiser keep-things-simple ideal.

And in my opinion, the older my truck gets, the better it gets, since cars and trucks today are every more computerized and covered in sensors and gizmos. I've had gizmo'ed out cars and that's fine, but I just love getting back into my old, simple truck. I guess its a "they don't build 'em like they used to" thing, and I'm not even that old, haha.

As for how I feel being seen, I've kept my truck stock looking and clean and I take care of the paint, because to me there's something especially eye-catching about an older truck that's been taken-care of, no matter what make or model. It shows pride of ownership over time, something that you don't see a lot in cars today because people switch them out so often. I think you see that in Toyota truck owners especially. I'm not the kind who feels like they need a new truck to look externally cool or successful, but then again I have nothing to prove. I'm not insecure about driving an older, smaller truck. I've had people put it down or try to make it "lose face" on the road, but I've had plenty more compliments on it. I'm not under any delusion I'm driving a classic truck, obviously, but there's something wholesome about an old truck someone takes care of.

Especially true with Toyota trucks - I take care of it, and it takes care of me.

Similarly to why I chose the Tacoma,
I feel a pride in involving myself with the heritage and prowess that Toyota has had in the offroad world for many decades. Whether its the rugged excitement of the 1980's "oh what a feeling" commercials, to the 1990's Baja racing success with Ivan Stewart, or modern-day Overlanding vibes - I know I am a part of that community wherever I may go.

If I had to sum it up in three words for an Ad, I'd say: Reliability, Capability, and Adventure.

Those words are what I stand by when modifying my own truck, and they've driven the reason behind the parts I choose, style of the truck, all the way down to the way I use it!

Emotional? Nah, it's fun and a tool like all good vehicles. if you make it about emotions, it adds a level you don't want as a consumer. Toyota hasn't made a vehicle I feel like is truely special in a very long time I think, but that's ok I think.

The whole family loves the truck!, my wife, my almost 9 years old son and ofcourse me!.
Our truck makes us all feel secure and safe. We also think that it's a beautiful truck that says a lot of who we are. We always treat our vehicles great, top notch lubricants and fuel. We look good after ourselves why shouldn't we look good after our vehicles!...and i have to say that I'm thankful for it!, I don't care that .y buddy has a Denali with 22"...i don't care...i can go wherever he goes but I bet he can't follow me wherever I can go...

I just feel ridiculously greaaaaaat! I just know those other truck owners are eyeballing and in awe of the Taco, all the while wishing they had one. What could be better?

There are just so many positive emotions… Peace of mind from the reliability of the truck and knowing the truck will get me there – there is where I want to be!

It might be easier to describe what emotions I don’t experience. I do not have any anger, confusion, contempt, disappointment, distress, or sadness about the Taco, in any regard.

    LOL

    LMAO

Next month the Chevy ads will say
“More Colorado’s are in the 200,000 mile club than any other truck. You don’t care about being flashy . . . . you want Rugged dependability. To go camping. To go exploring. To get you and your cargo home, no matter what. Chevy: Like A Rock”
