Appreciate all that, including buying my schtick. Don't know really what to say. W+K is a great agency, BTW. I'm just trying to learn a bit from you guys who are into it. and I take your point about "thrill of driving." that's the kind of B.S. i'm trying to make sure doesn't happen.

We don't have a budget for these things so I scrape together whatever and wherever I can. I'm also humble enough to know other know more than me. that's why I come here. Hoping to either update or see where guys are at these days. If this isn't cool, I'll stop. really. don't want to ruin a good thing for y'all.

I’m just trolling a bit cause it seemed odd to me. Keep doing you bro, the threads at least leading to some good convo (hopefully useful to you) and some bs’ing (all part of the fun).

Future Taco owner here (having one shipped to me)-

This will be my first truck (2018 TRD Pro) my first Toyota and first 4x4. My current vehicle is a 2 door FR-S so this is a big change for me.

I moved to an area that has a lot of snow and wanted something better in the winter, and I wanted something that was made in America (which my VIN # is), but had reliability and capability and to be honest, something cool about it besides the sea of boring trucks. I initially looked at the Cherokee Trailhawk but then looked at the 4Runner and then to the Tacoma TRD (Offroad or Pro). I want something capable of going wherever I might need to go, and will probably get into Overlanding at some point.

I like that the Taco isn't quite so "redneck" but can still hold its' own (and then some) with the typical American trucks. If the 4Runner was made in the US I would have considered it more strongly.

I would suggest looking at the Land-Rover Defender / Land Cruiser "vibe" for Toyota trucks, that's what interested me.

I also avoided the 2020 model because it's made in Mexico and has all that connectivity stuff I don't want or need.

Driving a Tacoma is starting to feel like driving a Jeep or Subaru or VW. Some weird owners trying to wave at you or assuming your best friends because you own the same truck. It’s a general production truck, and I’m just trying to drive around and live my life. I’m not trying to be part of some weird cult or your buddy. Years ago owning a Tacoma never felt like that. But I was also a lot younger and thought it was “Cool” to own a Tacoma. Perhaps something changed? Two of my friends had Tacoma’s so there’s that too. Or perhaps it was installing accessories for 14 years and having to deal with these weirdos 24/7, that drove me to have this feelings?

Either way I miss having my F150. Where I could roll up anywhere and no one was waving, eye fucking me, throwing me a peace sign or really acknowledging what I was driving.

Maybe it’s the “Tacomaworld mind fuck” that you are feeling?

I usually concentrate on driving while driving, but that’s just me I guess.

for the record, I haven’t read any of this thread, just saw the title and went directly to the last post.

While the Tacoma meets all of the utilitarian needs, I feel this is more of an adventurer’s truck. You can see that with many of the mods people do. There is great camaraderie amongst Tacoma owners too, as you can see on this forum. I also don’t worry about it due to Toyota’s reputation for reliability. Lastly its more practical for most everyday use compared to a full size.

At this point in my life, I don’t really care what others think. I just know I enjoy driving it every day and knowing the possibilities available with it.

I don't get as many grandpa jokes driving the Tacoma as I did with the last car I had, so I guess that's a plus.

I don’t give a damn what people think of my truck. It fills the need I bought it for - hunting and fishing in the back country. I like my Tacoma , wouldn’t have bought it if I didn’t. It’s a nice useful vehicle that I like and feel good about. It’s certainly not the center of my life. I don’t get orgasmic about it, nor do I drive around thinking look at me I’m driving a Tacoma.

For me, coming from boosted sedans and coupes, I feel like I'm driving something that is going to last me at least 170k miles if I treat it right. This is my first truck and I'm loving every second of it. I do miss being able to downshift to 3rd or 4th and pass cars or do a fun little pull. But I was always a fan of Tacoma's, every time I would drive by one even if it was stock, I would think "damn that's clean, maybe one day". A Tacoma for me was like an affordable "dream car". I think of a Tacoma as more of an adult car (I'm 26) so I feel safer and I can feel the build quality (def not from the interior lol but overall). I feel more mature in the Tacoma for some reason haha probably because it wasn't a cheap car to get and no teenager is going to buy a 40k car unless their parents help them (assuming it's brand new like I bought mine from the Stealership). When I do see V8's and other bigger trucks that aren't a Tundra, I'm not intimidated. It's actually the opposite. I feel proud owning a Tacoma lol. It's a badass mid-size truck!! Every time I see a modified Tacoma I get excited because there are so many aftermarket parts for these things, it's kind of overwhelming. I wasn't into trucks all that much other than Tacoma's but now noticing more trucks and owning one, I can also see why some people choose bigger trucks and whatnot. I don't care if people think my truck is too small. I bought this to haul things, take camping, and possibly dip my toes into offroading and hit some trails.

Just my two cents. I respect all rides.

Except for those diesel guys that are rolling coal just to be assholes. Fuck those guys.

Yes! We visited last month. Loved it out there, never been before. Got to get back up there for a fly fishing trip and explore Yellowstone some more.

I love driving this truck. Feel bad when you pull up next to guys in their chevys and fords. At least they don’t know.

I hear ya! I took this right up the road last year from your pic. The wife and I spent a week visiting Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons.
Amazing place. We're talking going back next month just to chill out a few days in Jackson Hole. Man that's a neat town!

Mine checks all the boxes I need it to:
    - Tows my T@B 400 travel trailer
    - Transports my kayak, surfboards, fishing poles, and camping gear
    - 4WD for crappy Vermont winters
    - Small enough to keep gas mileage reasonable and not be impossible to find parking
    - Has gotten me to every trail head and campsite I've wanted (off-road capability)
I feel much more attractive in it, what can I say, orange must be my color

TRD Exhaust, Mobtown bolt on sliders and aluminum tailgate reinforcement, Reverse lights changed to yellow turn signals, LED pods added for reverse, ADD W1 oil catch can, Total Chaos bed reinforcement, rear diff breather to taillight mod, 12" combo led bars behind lower grill wired to high beams, Toyota led bed light kit, 400 watt anytime mod, SSO slimeline front bumper.

Please no!! The current gen is good but if it goes more towards the recent domestic over faux macho crap I won't buy another. I hate the huge trucks that are 6.5' tall with a 5' tall hood (squared off junk). Then have a massive 6" of ground clearance because the guys can't get in without steps.

I love the look, capability - can go off road, tow my boat in the sand, tow a trailer for projects, still go to town and not be a complete beast to park.
