No worries....welcome to TW! M/T = Mud Terrain tire but if you see MT or 6MT it means manual transmission. And just cause if you see M/T you will also see A/T it is All Terrain tire.

Americans are so starved for manual transmissions and there are so few of them left that a car manufacturer could offer one with weird gear ratios, rubbery shifting, self destructing T/O bearing, and imprecisely engaging clutch and people would still line up and pay a premium for it.

Also M/T stands for meatballs and tater tots.

A place I worked many years ago had an elderly Ford with a 3 speed on the wheel.

Below is what is in the engine compartment at the bottom of the column, the top arm is for low/reverse, the bottom arm second/high, they go to the transmission.
There are unseen springs that hold the sandwich together, the photo shows the assembly in neutral.

The bit in the middle with the orange arrow is what is connected to the shifter.
There is a pin on each side to work the arms.

    3spd_04.jpg

Well, all that stuff wears down and gets floppy and sloppy. The old Ford had a nasty habit of jamming when shifting from low to second. It wouldn't be out of first but wouldn't go into second and wouldn't go back in to first.

Without fail this happened in the middle of an intersection... :censored::censored::censored:

If there were two people it wasn't so bad, the driver could hold the clutch down and move the shifter, the other guy could pry the levers back in the right place with a big screwdriver.

    If you were alone...
You are in the intersection trying to rock the truck and pry on the levers at the same time.

With practice (and a bit of prayer perhaps) it worked ok, one minute of inattention however found you swearing in the middle of an intersection as other drivers swore at you.

Now that you mention it, I returned to my apartment in Cody, Wyoming one day to ask the movers about moving the Rambler and they showed how they easily moved it into neutral without having to get into the car. They just pushed it to a different spot to get their truck in. Later that year, I'd have trouble that turned out to be the nut loosening at the transmission linkage arm, and another that an adjuster piece had been lost from the self-adjusting clutch (probably while someone was trying to replace the transmission with an overdrive version. Crawling under the car with a wrench or two isn't much of a problem in your early 20s... Now, I try to avoid stoop labor. We can get down on the ground as fast as we used to, but getting up takes a bit longer...
