I am in the process of deciding on how to level my 2010 Tacoma. Thinking of going with the bilsteins all the way around but see people talk about tsb rear spring. Can anyone fill me in?

So would that be the recall on the rear springs. I just bought the truck this weekend and it shows an open recall on the rear leaf springs

Not a recall. TSBs are totally different.

The "tsb leaf springs" were an early fix for the very weak 3 leaf pack which got an upgrade to a 4 leaf pack. The leaf spring recall is to replace leaf springs that are prone to breaking and could potentially puncture the fuel tank.

ok cool deal. What do I need to do to get the 4 leaf pack. Is that something that I pay for or is that something Toyota will take care of?

Call a local dealership, speak with service, give them your vin #, and let them know you want to take care of the leaf spring recall. They will do it for free.

So they will replace the defective springs along with adding the additional leaf also even though the additional leaf spring was a tsb and not a recall?

The TSB was several years ago, they removed the complete 3 leaf pack to replace it with the 4 leaf pack. What's going on now is a recall not a TSB. For the recall they will replace the entire leaf pack with the newly revised 4 leaf pack. It's at no cost to you as it is a recall. When I had mine done I had to keep calling until they had a set in stock then leave my truck all day for the work to be done.

TSBs are not required to be done, just if you a problem you can go in and describe your problem and if there's a TSB they can fix it. For a recall it's (as far as I know) mandatory for the dealer to ask you about it and offer to do the work.

Some people on this (And every) forum will lead you to believe you can walk into the dealer and have them fix everything on your truck that has a TSB behind it. Those people are in fact assholes.

A recall would be there's a defective part installed in trucks A-Z and owners will be asked to come for a replacement.

A TSB would be there's a known issue with a part and a customer who comes in with a complaint and a TSB steers the dealership on how to fix it per Toyota instruction as opposed to a troubleshooting process.

Recalls you're entitled to. TSBs you are not.

Unless your existing issue matches a TSB repair. If you don't have a problem with something, you won't get it fixed just because a TSB exists.

I've gone to the dealer for two TSBs. The chirping ac blower and the leaf springs. Dealer fixed both without issue. That's my experience. Sorry if you've had other experiences.

I had the most difficulty with the leaf spring recall.

I dealer will refer to a TSB and fix under warranty if it falls under the warranty period. Or charge you, if not. What I'm referring to is people who post up stating they asked the dealer to complete all of the TSB's and get mad when they are laughed at.
