What does your turbo sound like on boost

Have 600 miles on my new TRD. Just wondering what your turbos sound like above 2200 rpm when on boost? When on easy boost mine seems to have a clicking sound. When on hard boast it seems pretty quiet and smooth.

Is this normal?

 

I don't know if I notice a clicking sound, the injectors make clicking sounds that I notice when I have my windows down. At least I think its the injectors. When the boost kicks in I hear like a very soft airy momentary whistle that is rising in pitch then it goes away. Trying to think of what I'd compare it to like a kids toy whistle that sounds like a turbo lol.

 

Kind of all over the place, I’m pretty sure it’s a VVT based on the sound but I have been able to find zero info on the turbo. No clicking though that Might be the injectors.

 

Don't really hear the turbo unless I'm accelerating briefly and let off. Heavy on throttle it sounds like a diesel with the way the injection sounds. I personally like it. Kinda clattery, but not really?

We have a '23 Camry with the D4S injection and it's much quieter than the Tacoma. Likely by design.

Also have a VW with a little 1.4 turbo and it's similar in the diesel-ish noise.

 

There’s going to be a wide range of opinions on 2.4T noises.

SR/SR5’s and base TRD’s will be raw, four cylinder turbo acoustics.

If you pay more money ($50k+), you can get hood silencers, noise cancellation, and even fake engine sounds pumped thru the speakers. One owner might complain that the truck sounds broken, and someone else will insist it purrs. Neither will be wrong.
