    Hey guys I'm about to buy some Doug Thorley long tube headers and although I want to hear positives I'm curious what type's of failures others have encountered, kind of getting prepared for the worst and expecting the best with these

    I've installed 2 set in the past on 2 different Tacoma (2005 +2011) and never had any problem with them. In fact, never read something about failure related to it.

    neither had I which is why I was curious about failures, fitment problems or possible negatives to the long tubes I wasn't expecting, it's nice to hear positives though

    I have. The driver side transmission bracket doesn't line up properly onto the Y-pipe flange. If you don't slot the bracket's hole, then it will crack the flange at the merge collector.

    parts and stuff
    really? only issue i ever had was the passenger side trans mission bracket bolt falling out at the header. did it twice. only thing to happen was the header/ypipe banging around makin a god awful noise

    Yup. Happened to mine, and happened to Lucario Runner's. His set are in my garage right now, still cracked. Or maybe we fixed it. Cannot remember. He had the bolt falling out problem as well. Upgraded to better hardware and problem solved.

    The bracket flange problem is also there with the URD Spec-U driver side header.

    When we installed those on his truck (although they were a pre-production set) the holes didn't line up, and it was threaded to small. Had to drill out the hole larger, on the header flange, and elongate the hole on the bracket.

    how did I miss these responses
    what type of hardware upgrade we talkin bout? and mine is a 2012 so its a little different maybe my bolt pattern will line up when they get here, if I'm lucky

    also I saw a write up where the guy did not use the transmission bracket what are the risks involved with this

    I cannot remember which grade bolts that came with the headers. For the header to Y-pipe flange. We just installed Grade 10.8 (9?) bolts with the self locking nuts. The kind which have the serrated bottom, at the mating face. Can't remember what those are called either. Lol. One of those mornings.

    Over time, if the trans support bracket isn't installed, the headers will crack, at the rear most primaries. Happened to mine. Then you have to go and get the re-welded.

    Reason being, is due to the whole exhaust being able to flex all the way to the headers. Those brackets help support the weight of the Y-pipe (which is quite heavy) , as well as isolate it from the catback. There are spring bolts, and a donut gasket at the rear of the Y-pipe, which is to allow the catback to flex. Also a much cheaper alternative to the stainless flex couplings seen on more expensive vehicles.
