How about a button to disable the ABS like you can do with the traction control? At least a less sensitive version that won't make you speed up going into a snow-covered intersection (Rain vs. Snow mode?).

How about the rear headrests on the '10 Access Cab models (that I removed the next day) that block half of the view out of the rear window and don't fold flat when nobody is back there.

Mudflaps (need to shorten them or get something flexible)
Stock Tires (I should have traded them immediately)

I still like the styling and size of the 1st Gen trucks. No one makes a true small truck anymore (original Datsun King Cab was my first).

All things said, I am happy and will keep it for 300k+ miles like my last vehicle.[IMG]

My only real complaint is the lack of a backlight on the 4WD switch. I'm glad someone made a mod for it. I'll probably install it in the spring. An aux interface on the stereo would have been nice I guess. I have the disc changer, but who buys CD's these days?

And the stock tires are fine imo. If you're going off-roading regularly then you'll want something bigger but everything on that truck is designed for moderate use offroad while still being a very driveable truck on the highway. Millions of dollars of research, development, and testing goes into these vehicles every year in order to make them what they are. If everything was ultra heavy-duty they would only sell trucks to 4x4 lovers, which wouldn't exactly make toyota a lot of money.

At the same time, it's a great truck in most any situation and there's a reason they sell and resell like hotcakes. I can't seem to GIVE away my 94 4WD jimmy but if I had the same 223k miles on my tacoma I'd still get 10 grand for it..LOL

I'd like some bigger tires too (and I'll get them) but my first consideration has to be my 35 mile commute. 18mpg living in the mountains and $110 to fill the tank twice a week is bad enough. :)

There are a lot of things posted so far that I'd have to agree with, but overall I really like my '10 Access Cab. There is one thing that I wish they'd address though. When driving with the driver's side window down, you get buffeted by the wind at anything close to highway speeds. You can crack open the rear slider to alleviate this, but then any debris that's in the bed blows in (...I found this out after picking up some bark mulch). It'd be cool if the Access Cab's rear door windows could flip open at the back to vent, like the ones on some vans do.

No heated mirrors is kind of a bummer on a 30k truck. And the stereo is anemic.

HUH???? are your saying your truck ACCELERATES when you press brakes?

I think it's just an illusion...your brain EXPECTs that it will slow faster than it does and brain interprets that as speeding up when it's really slowing.

Also...you do know the purpose of ABS, don't you? If it activates..then your wheels are locking up 'cause the tire isn't getting traction...turning it off in rain and snow defeats the purpose of that!

So not only no...but HELL NO!...there absolutely should NOT be a disabling button cause idiots will use it and then slam into me!

If your just being sarcastic...then ignore. But otherwise yeah, :frusty: you'd be one of those idiots.

It's funny I bought my 05 access cab 4 cyl 4x4 new and by about 75k I was cursing the thing with all the trouble I had with it in comparison to the last dozen or so Toyota trucks I have had. And it continued to let me down another few times with failures. But after talking to some coworkers and friends who bought new Fords, Chevy's, and Dodges at about the same time my wheel bearings, shocks, alternator, A/C compressor, and cab rattles were small potato's. So I decided I would hold onto it. It had been paid for since 08 anyhow. Then a few months later I came to the realization that it was just too small. Whenever my daughter was in the back in her car seat the person in the passenger seat had their knees occupying the same space as the glove compartment. So I put it up on craigslist and it sold the next day. I had already been checking out double cabs and I found one a few hours from home at a Toyota dealer with a few more miles than my access cab but it was an indigo blue TRD off road bone stock. Which is exactly what I wanted so I bought it. Granted it needed front wheel bearings (big surprise) but I have to say I am way happier with this truck than I was with my access cab. It's got way more power and the cab structure is far more solid than the access cab. It's got zero rattles. And the BFG rugged trails are actually a fairly decent tire. The tires that came on my access cab absolutely sucked. Even brand new they were useless in the snow. I put Bilsteins in my access cab at 50k when the stock shocks were shot. But the OE bilsteins and better springs in the TRD really feel great. Things I think Toyota should change: The front mudflaps are a joke. On my last 05 they both broke the first time I backed up in deep snow. On my new truck they were both torn clean off. I installed aftermarket powerflow mudflaps on the new truck that are roughly the same size and design as stock but they are rubber. The 4WD switch should light up. But even better yet give us a real transfer case lever. I doubt Toyota would ever offer an on-off switch for the ABS but that would be nice. I feel their ABS system is way too intrusive. I would personally rather be without it entirely, but that will never happen on a new production vehicle. I also think the design of the glovebox shock thing sucks. Take it off a few times and you may as well leave it off. Get a better design for the front wheel bearings. These should last 200k plus like they did on my 4 runner not 75k like on my last 05. Perhaps the ones I just changed on the new truck were the second set. At least I'm getting really good at changing them. Toyota also needs to paint the frame with some real paint. I can't believe how crusty the frame got on my last truck after 2 winters. This truck had a really clean frame so I painted it with rust encapsulator chassis paint from eastwood. Hopefully it works good. Give us a dipstick for the automatic transmission! I know manufacturers are all going away from this, but it's a slap in the face to people who maintain their own stuff. Rear heat in the quad cabs would be nice as would be a sunroof, heated seats, leather, etc. But it is a truck after all. And although I wouldn't buy one due to it's size I would love it if they would make a V6 regular cab again. I had a 95.5 V6 regular cab tacoma and it was awesome. And a 7' long bed regular cab. They haven't made these since the early 90's. And allow someone to buy a loaded regular cab. Regular cabs are cool. Manual hubs up front would be nice too. My 95.5 was the newest truck I had with these. Overall though I think Toyota has done a fine job adapting to the market as people demanded larger more comfortable trucks over the years. I miss my old trucks but every time I plow my driveway with my old 89 that I still love I can't imagine driving it everywhere like I do my tacoma. Forget it with my FJ40. A few hours in that and I need a nap.

I usually only tow my 500 pound quad on a 4x8 trailer. I almost t_boned someone because the brakes cant stop this truck like it should. IMO

all trucks stop slower with weight behind them, common sense, just stop sooner.

i tow 2000 lbs behind my 4 cyl, and it did take a little to get used to the braking, but just slow down SOONER. :bananadance:

Ahh ,what if they pull out in front of you. Is that common sense. God help you if someone pulls out in front of you. Sorry but with the tow rating on this truck it should have better braking. I never said it should be the same as without something behind us. Again, IMO.

Wellll....someone said that in a head-2-head comparison with this truck on ConsumerReports, Tacoma's had great stopping distance and fade. Maybe the best? can't remember.

I didn't see it myself, but it must count for something if it's true.
