A neutal position in the transfer case so it could be towed behind a motor home wheels down! An oil gauge just helps my comfort zone. It also needs a six speed auto.

Six speed auto would be killer.. Anything that would help the MPGs.
I never thought about towing a 4x4 that is a bummer.

Only complaint is the side windows on the access cab hard to see out of from the drivers seat my type 1 was much better. Some of the other complaints I read about could be cured by reading the manual.

Fog Lamps, Tail gate secured, bed lights, inverter, hitch. Repairs include fan, airbag cable, bypass pipe, valve cover gasket, water pump.
Paint is too thin. Body panels too thin. Painted dashboard wears through and any writing goes with it. Fan speed control issue. Spiral cable issue. Frame flexes so much doors close poorly on even a slight incline. Bypass pipe is made of plastic and fails at about 200K. Tailgate cap weak, lets even moderate load dent metal portion of tailgate. Front discs wear quickly, were turned at 100K but still required replacement at 190K. Water pump failed at 180K and OEM part was $400 plus labor. Cannot repack front wheel bearings. Mediocre fuel mileage (22mpg with 4-cyl).

Most of my dislikes are premised upon my ownership of my '94 with the 22R motor. 28 mpg (but pathetic power), much better paint, much stouter sheetmetal, no frame flex, colors in interior were molded in, real wheel bearings, truck went 400K on original starter, alternator, water pump, etc. Of course, it was a simpler truck so there was less to go wrong, but if Toyota had built the Tacoma to the same quality standard as my '94, I would not be looking at Nissans now.

No power seat or sunroof option. And the manual shifter seems too far away, if that makes sense.

I have a 2012 DCLB w/Entune and thought it would of had more features.

I like the compass and temp.

The passenger side power window should have an auto up/down feature like the driver side does.

There should be a digital readout for MPG/Miles left til empty/Tire presure....etc.

Why on earth do I have a separate key fob and key. My mom's Corola has the open/close/panic button built right into the key. I have separate ones. What a stupid idea.

Power seats would be nice....and why not 2 memory options..

USB outlet in the rear, maybe behind the console.

Lighted glove box... Come on.... It couldn't cost an extra $4...

I agree with ya on the power seats/memory options. wish my wife's camry had the memory too. we take her car almost everywhere we drive, so I'm driving it quite a bit and adjusting the mirrors back and forth can get annoying.

First I want to say I love my Taco and all the Toyota products I've owned. Whoever says trucks are all crap is full of sht, these cars do really last it's just a fact and you can resell them in any kind of economy (real value).

But here is what I would like changed and or options added:

    1. MPG - Just like I didn't believe they couldn't make a car with better MPG, I don't believe they can't make a truck with better MPG. Want to see a rebirth of truck and SUV buying? Make a 35 MPG Taco and 4Runner and see what happens lol...

    2. Gen 1 style sliding back window. I used to be able to shove a 10' longboard 22" wide through the back window and lock it inside my cap, was freaken awesome. Even better? Electric back window that goes down like the 4Runner...that would be freaken sick, would love to have that bad boy open on a nice drive.

    3. Power seats. Make em heated while you are at it. My buddies F150 has power heated seats and when you come out of the ice cold water and get those cranking it feels goooood. I also don't understand why the front seats sit so low. I am not tall but even my tall friends don't like the height, I thought it was just me until I heard others say the same exact thing. Weird engineering.

    4. Sunroof option, just want one. Make it an option for those of us who want it. My old 4Runner had it and I loved it. Nothing like driving through the redwoods or pulling over on the side of a lookout with the stars shinning down.

    5. Heated mirrors. Sometimes they are completely impossible to see out of and dangerous when you have a full cap.

    6. Lockable tailgate and gas cap. FFS I have had my tire caps stolen so I don't even bother having any at all now, had a Jeep stolen and found abandoned 3 towns over a couple weeks later, other vehicles broken into, had a friend have his exhaust pipe stolen off his Taco, it's just the lame criminal society we live in where people will steal anything to make buck (and I believe it's going to get worse...a lot worse). Why not make it just a little harder (and give us just a tad more piece of mind)?

    7. I don't like how unsturdy the fit and finish is. Things like the front grill frame, hood, front headlights, etc seem so fragile like you can just break them off with your hand without much effort. Don't believe me? Just press your hand on them and watch em flex, wtf is up with that. On my gen 1 taco and even my 4Runner nothing flexed, super stiff and solid, not all plastic parts, etc. I don't get it.

    8. Cheap as fk windshield. 3 other Toyota vehicles that I put hundreds of thousands of miles on, never had a problem with glass (not ever!)...2 chips in my gen 2 already and it's only 3 years old. Thought it was just me, then read the forums...wtf.

    9. Headunit sucks for a stock radio. I say this only because of what is available on other vehicles of the same price range (or less) and what Toyota give you blows. I highly doubt they couldn't upgrade the stereos with the price of electronics these days.

    10. I know if and when these options become available the Tacoma will be a $50k+ truck so I am saying it now, I hate the price I will have to pay for these options lol...

Funny how so many of the things mentioned in this thread are now available in the current (2012) model...

Aesthetically, 'd love a sunroof/moonroof option...but that's not really that important to me. Funcitionally, I'd love heated mirrors...would really help on cold snowy mornings.

I've already replaced my front mudflaps with Husky flaps, which are shorter and fit great (and were VERY affordable), so I'm OK there.

If I wanted heated leather power seats, I'd buy a Lexus.

EDIT: Oh, and I wish 6th gear on my manual transmission was geared better to actually save gas mileage...instead of being just being a waste of gear making me shift one extra time at highway speeds.

Funny how many people who use trucks in cold weather, camping, trailing, cold water sports, mt. biking, work and more MIGHT want to have factory heated seats as an option and not a Lexus...funny how stupid that remark is when you really think about it.

Mushy brake peddle on my 2011 DC 4X4 SB SR5. Took it back to the dealer and they checked it out and said it was fine. It isn't always mushy, but I still pump the peddle when I start the engine. It seems a lot better after 1,000 miles, but I almost couldn't get it to stop when it was new. I still don't trust it.

lockable tail gate and gas cap would be nice, along with some better gas mileage, and may-be a roof rack... other then that i`m real happy. I had an 2005 that was good also that came with a roof rack on it...
