I'm glad I'm not the only one who found this annoying. When I first got in it, I laughed at them. It's like they were designed for little kids fingers. :D

Thanks! I will have to look into that. My 4runner did it and I automatically think the truck will......

Mine's an '06 4x4 TRD OR Access cab. Well, basically, I think it's homely...a lot better looking than a Dodge, of course! But it looks good enough to sit in my driveway, which a Dodge isn't, or wasn't in '06.

Mine has 6 CD changer stock...lots of use, still works. But 10 would be mo'betta! Of course, I should get a USB port put in, along with about $3k worth of new stereo, but that's not likely.

I wish there was a lock on the tailgate and gas door. An electric slider is a nice idea, along with heated outside mirrors and maybe even side mirror turn signals. I was following a Ford PU with those and of course their tail lights never work reliably, so the ones on the mirrors saved the day.

It would be nice if the 6 spd. manual was quicker shifting...it's a lot like the granny-gear 4 speed in my '68 GMC...clunky. Is the 5 speed like that?

The hood barely pops up at all when the inside release is tripped...tough to get open enough to get at the safety latch without using fingernails or a prybar (kidding!). It should pop up an inch or close to it.

One of the more annoying things is all those round cup holders. Who needs them all? Five in the console and at least two or three in each front door? That's overkill. I'd vote for none in the doors and two front/two back, tho in the back of an Access Cab, you'd be looking at baby bottles, and RR's wouldn't put their baby bottles into the cup holders, so that's a waste. It would be really nice if there was a modular design so you could put in various configurations to work best for you. Steve

A few more gripes I figured I'd add:

    • No auto climate control - A lot of lesser-expensive cars are coming with automatic climate control. It's not that it's difficult to find the right temperature in the Tacoma's cab, but it'd be nice to set a temperature digitally and let a computer do the rest of the work.
    • No power seats - This goes along with the "interior" bullet above. It's really pathetic, IMHO, that the seats are still fully manual. New seats require crash testing, which Toyota may not have been interested in doing ($$$!) but the Tacoma's R&D is bought and paid for at this point. Any they sell are gravy and I suspect they could easily afford the process.
    • Nav complaint - This may be a UE, but I'd really like to see road names on ALL of the roads on the nav screen. There seems to be some strange algorithm it uses to determine whether it's going to show an intersecting street's name or not.

I actually use most of my cupholders! When you and a buddy are riding along and each has a holder for their spit cup, McDs soda cup, coffee mug, and extra holders for your empty cups. I think Toyota did a great job providing the number of cup holders.

My previous vehicle was a 2007 Acura RDX and the "low tech" Tacoma interior was actually something I wanted.

Manual seats? I used to complain that my Acura didn't have a powered passenger seat to match the driver's. Then the lumbar control went out (replaced under warranty). I hardly ever move my seat, so I don't need the electronic assistance.

Heated seats? Passenger seat heater went out, and one of the driver seat heaters went out (replaced under warranty). I live in Texas so cloth is better for hot and cold. Plus the water-resistant factor is nice.

Auto-locking doors? All that locking/unlocking caused a known issue in the RDX where the door actuators would fail...usually all around the same time. I prefer the automatically (manual) unlocking front doors on my truck.

Leather seats? The dog scratched the center arm rest to hell jumping back and forth between the 2 front seats. Tacoma's got that squishy vinyl.

Automatic climate control? The manual makes me use my A/C less (though, grain of salt with this one because I haven't been through a TX summer with the Tacoma yet) and just run the fan or roll down the window. The A/C compressor on the RDX over heated (turbo + 100+ degree heat + long drives) and I ended up having to replace it and the condenser...$$$. Plus, I'm sure if the manual A/C controls break, it'll cost less to replace/fix than an auto climate control unit.

Of course, all this is influenced by my specific previous vehicle, but I just like that the Tacoma seems simpler inside. All the tech is outside and under the hood where I REALLY want/need it.

I do, however, agree with the statements about the cup holders. There are 13, and not one can hold a full sized Nalgene or my 18oz Hydroflask. And the rear sliding window is too far for me to reach back in the DC and open by hand. A powered rear window (like the Tundra/4Runner) would be nice.

And (when cruising around your own property) the little weird one below the shifter is the perfect size for a 12oz glass bottle of your favorite adult beverage.

Just got my Tacoma last week. Tried running in 4h, switching 'on the fly' from 2H. Stopped at the store & when I started out, (still in 4H) it was very shaky going. Two service departments told that this was normal & I shouldn't start out in 4H.

all of the bolts on my shocks are rusted, leaf springs are rusted, dashboard has a migrating squeak (sometimes it is on the driver's side, other times it is on the passenger side). I turn the A/C off and it still blows cold air on me. Other than that stuff, I love it!

If you remove one of the rubber inserts in the front cupholders, it leaves a square that fits a nalgene perfectly.

Lack of stake pockets on the bed rails makes it harder to find rack systems.
