Yes there are things I don’t like about my 2022 but every vehicle I’ve owned had stuff I didn’t like about it. I think is has plenty of power for a V6. Getting used to the 6 speed tranny. Also, I try to remember it’s not a $70 to $80,000 truck. My biggest peeve is finding a place to service the tranny. I do my own regular maintenance but I don’t want to service the tranny myself and the dealers won’t service it and I’ve checked a few tranny shops and they won’t touch either. If someone knows of a place here in Arkansas that services the tranny (and knows what they are doing) I like to know.

I ran into the same issue. Resorted to watching a few drain and fill videos and never looked back. Super easy to do.

I like everything about my 2021 AC Cab.
Got no issue with the transmission function.
Got no issue with the seats ( I do use a butt saver ).
Got no issue with the power.

It looks good, feels good, and best of all I look good in it.

I’m honestly thinking what I don’t like …. Probably the interior plastics … you need to stay on them because they do scratch easily, and the stupid canister oil filter . It’s not the end of the world but it is a extra work on an oil change. The other thing is the rear bumper with the plastic caps , I think should have been one piece all metal.

Vehicles aren't like relatives. If you don't like it get something else.
On the other hand I have relatives that all they do is bitch about everything and anything.

I still don't understand if people complain about their vehicle so much why do you still have it? Better yet why did you buy it in the first place

Roger that - I keep mine in showroom condition - washed it and will spray-wax it when sun goes down.
Interior will be a nice clean up. It's a 2021 AC Cab and looks great. Hell my 2017 Forester looks damn good too.

    • The drive-train isn't real smooth. A bit jerky. Agree but I hear that for $400 to $500 you can get that fixed with an OTT Tune.
    • The seats are not uncomfortable, but could be a lot better. Neutral. I like the seats but they aren't the most comfortable. Then again look at what you paid for the truck. You weren't expecting Porsche Cayenne seats were you?
    • It beeps for everything. I hate the beeping. F-Yes. Open the door a half second before your finger hits the off button and it beeps incessantly. Seriously Bro-Truck. I know the door is open and you should shut up if the truck is in park and the ignition is off. Thinking about renaming it Karen if it keeps asking to see the manager over trivial stuff.
    • Radio/Entertainment system is very lack for a 2023 model. Typical Toyota - You are getting reliability because Toyota Tech is proven. It's proven because it's usually 10 years behind the industry. Thus you get a 2010's Info-Tainment Package. I'm just glad it doesn't have an 8-Track or Cassette.
    • Woefully under-powered. Has anyone done a 3.5 TT swap from the Tundra's? Under-powered? No. Less powerful than almost all of the competition, yes. But again, I hear the OTT Brings the drive-ability up to where you don't notice.
    • Rides a bit soft. I get it's designed for some OR capability. Better shocks should help. Oh Hell Naw! I love this ride. It's a Cadillac on the trail and pleasant on the streets. I had a 2019 Ranger that was GREAT on the highway and suuuuucked everywhere else. The Taco does a really solid job of giving everyone what they need without losing the other abilities. Don't cast shade on the Stock Suspension.

    • Fulfills it's job as a daily driver well. I got it used so I'm not obsessing about daily wear on it.
    • Perfect size cab. Not too big or small.
    • It's a truck and does truck stuff! I don't have to put mulch in the wife's Cayenne anymore!
    • It's not too big like a F-150 or Silverado. You can actually swing it into a parking space on the first try.
    • Gas mileage is good for a 4x4 V6. I can consistently get 19-20.

Yeah I agree with all of your likes. But I would tell you this. No one is ever 100% satisfied with with a vehicle. There is always something you could have upgraded to or something they could have done better. The Tacoma does an amazing job of being great across the board and only has a few hang ups.

I like my 16 SR5 just fine. I bought it new and wanted lowest tech level I could find. Made suspension what I wanted. It’s a very good truck.
Only thing I hate, is stupid design for light dimmer where you have to reach through steering wheel. Also the hole for adjuster has allowed mucho dust to find it’s way in.

Underpowered? Did you get an automatic tranny or something? The biggest thrill of my workday typically happens when I turn out of the company parking lot and onto the four-lane highway which runs by, knowing the other drivers are thinking, "Whoa, I'm booking like a bat out of hell and there's a truck pulling out. Better get into the other lane so I can pass." WWRRROOOONNGGG!

I’m still not sure about the stock bilsteins. They’re a little too sensitive to small imperfections but soak up larger stuff like railroad tracks with ease.

Power delivery is all wrong for a truck. Everything comes in at over 4k rpm and Toyota dropped the redline of the 3.5 to 6k instead of 6700-6800 like on other applications so the engine feels even more underpowered. I have it tuned with OTT and it helps, but it's still not ideal.

Also, no rear defroster. Toyota, what the fuck even?!

I have two gripes. First, I have to use 93 octane or sub-2.5k rpm performance sucks. I doubt people with automatic transmissions experience this issue. I wish the seat went back about 2” further. I’m working on that one now.

How do so many people still not understand that a truck can overall fit the bill okay, but the owner still have some complaints about it? As soon as anyone mentions any complaints they have, the whole forum jumps on them to sell it and get something else. The market doesn’t have much to offer. There isn’t much better out there, sadly. Just because you have complaints with the 3rd gen doesn’t mean you can immediately sell it and find something infinitely better. The suggestions to do so are completely useless and are not worth suggesting.

    My dislikes:
    • It is underpowered, plain and simple. It gets a lot better at higher rpm, but it still has less torque than most other vehicles I’ve owned, and it shows. And it’s inconsistent. Sometimes 4000 rpm feels amazing, sometimes 4000 rpm still feels like it’s got nothing. Seems to be related to how much I’m pressing the gas pedal. It really does not like full throttle. People say it’s not underpowered - I encourage them to drive a 4.0L Nissan Frontier. Or the 4.0L Tacoma for that matter. They don’t bog down and throw fits like the 3.5L.
    • My AC drips on the floor constantly. Stupid design. Drain hose is clear, it ain’t that. I can’t visibly see a crack in the HVAC box and if that’s the problem, then it’s not getting fixed under my ownership.
    • No hunting problems because I have a manual. The stock manual could be geared a lot better than it is though. Have to use third for quick passing and it’s still not always very quick. I have the manual from the 4th gen and it’s better, but due to 4-5-6 all being the same or taller, I’m still using 3rd for passing, and it’s still not great.
    • Power steering components on this truck suck. Racks leak, hose connections leak, either pump or rack is now making a groan when steering at low rpm. I’m not doing anything with it unless it becomes more of a problem.

Overall the truck is okay, but it could have been so much better. Toyota clearly built themselves a stopgap solution in 2016 to meet emissions a bit better and to freshen the lineup a bit with features for more potential buyers. It is absolutely nowhere close to the best thing they could have come up with in 2016. They just weren’t ready for the 4th gen yet and the new motor they wanted to release, so they threw in the 3.5L. While they were doing that, they should have thrown in the newer 4.0L instead. Oh well, I guess.

I personally am waiting on a 4G manual and when I get it, nobody will have to listen to me complain anymore about the 3G and its terrible power output. Although I will probably still reminisce on the past and talk about what a disappointment driving the 3.5L was.
