I used to take my 11 STi on road trips, it never really bothered me. 8 hour jaunts to Phoenix were about the longest, but it was always fun. I'll be taking the new one on a 7 hour trip in a couple of weeks, we'll see how that one goes!

I refused to buy a 17 sti due to the same old tired powerplant. Then the refresh came out, and the thought of buying an sti with equal length headers kind of made me sick, so we had to pick up the 18. I guess the new engine will be out in 2020, rumor is some sort of fa20, which is a fantastic engine, but with the twin scroll turbo and direct injection, you lose the rumble... It's just not the same.

I'd love to know how different the seats were. Mine were not comfortable over the long haul (I had an 06) and if you hit the bumps on the road just right you'd get into bobble head. I re-did the foam on the seats and that did help, but it still wasn't a long distance cruiser for me. Plus it would let every single noise in. I had a loud stereo in it at the time which helped, but it definitely wasn't my choice for long distance cruises.

I actually had the wheels / tires off a 2011 STi for about a year, but I couldn't deal with the road noise from the OEM Dunlops. I constantly felt like I had 4 bad wheel bears. I ended up selling the full set for a small loss and put a set of 235/45 Pilot Super Sports on the OEM wheels and calling it good.

    Blah, the nostalgia is real.

Beautiful car, I've always loved the 06-07, they've just never had enough headroom for my overgrown ass.

The 11 was a bit more quiet, the 18 is substantially better. I just put exhaust (invidia r400 gemini) on the new one tonight, probably ruining Subarus sound deadening efforts.

Agreed on the OEM tires. I swapped mine for a 245/45/17 kumho ecsta 4x, and they were miles better. The new sti comes with Yokohama advans, so far so good. Anything is better than the Dunlop and Bridgestones they put on their cars.

A good friend of mine just bought a 17 with port installed SPT exhaust about 4 months ago. I could not believe how far the car had come. The FA likes to rev, I kept going up into the high RPM range during normal cruising. My C5 is so relaxed that anything that revs is impressive.

More than anything I miss my big dumb wing, 8 million gauges and intuitive head unit. My Vette has all the information in the center console information readout and the world's WORST DVD / double-DIN head unit. I'd kill for my AVIC back. I should have stripped it out of the car before I sold it.

I would really suggest you at least test ride some r9t model before you buy anything. The oil cooled boxer motor is awesome, one of the last models BMW put out without a radiator.

Nice! She doesn't look stock ;)

My '15 WRX is stock (well just an axleback but doesn't do shit besides for sound lol). My '07 WRX was not stock (VF43 + supporting mods + tune). I guess I'm just getting older (32 today) and don't want a "fun" car anymore. I want something boring (automatic/4 door/regular gas) lol

I didn't mean she was scared about DD'ing the STi. Just I know with my commute a boring automatic car would be nice lol

I had a '07 WRX (now '15 WRX) and I definitely miss the rumble. The FA just isn't the same. My '15 WRX is stock (besides axleback). Just no desire to modify it.

As for the new engine in the STi.. I'll believe it when I see it. Subaru definitely needs to step up their game.

    Hawkeye STi <3

People are still selling them for a premium. Finding an unmolested one is impossible (granted they are 10 years old). I miss my Hawkeye WRX at times.

I agree about how far they have came along. I do like my '15 WRX (over my '07 WRX) for the creature comforts (compared to years past) but some shit still bothers me (rattles, TOB, pedal assembly noise, loud cabin noise just to name a few).

    Did you have the AVIC-D3?

I sold mine last April to the local Subaru dealer for $20,000. I wonder if I kept it a few years if they'd go up or down. I paid $28,000 for it one year used in 2007, so that's a pretty decent return considering I owned it for nearly 10 years and put 35,000 miles on it. The dealer used to let me spend Subaru bucks on Cobb parts. My downpipe cost me $10 out of pocket.

I had the D3. I loved that HU.

Since you guys are getting me all STI horney. I have to ask. Whats the best year? There's a guy down the street from me with a 2000 ish and I love the look of that car so much! But are the newer's any better? Still the same old 305hp?

You got $20k for it April 2016 (or April 2017)? Regardless they do hold their value VERY well. 10 years and only 35k miles. Damn you barely drove that thing lol

As for me... I don't think I'll get $20k for my '15 WRX when I trade it in...

Yeah I remember Subaru Bucks. I loved my Subaru Chase Mastercard. I also bought tons of things (aftermarket) for my Hawkeye with the Subaru Bucks. I miss them :(

As for the D3... I wanted to get it but never pulled the trigger back in the day lol

    Best Year... Hmmm

It all depends. Some people loved the '04/'05 (Blobeye) STi's while others loved the '06/'07 (Hawkeye) STi's. Then you have the people who love hatches/wagons who went for the '08-'14 STi's since they were only available for those years.

As for the newer ones being any better... They have made improvements over the years mainly with the suspension (stiffness/thicker swaybars/ect) but the engine is still the 305hp. For the 2018 STi they put 19" wheels on them along with upgrading the already very nice Brembo brakes. The calipers are like a neon color now which a lot of people hate.

I got $20k in April 2016. My math was off, I did 45,000 miles, not 35,000. I bought it with 16k on it and sold it with 62k.

I got the following with my Subie Bucks:

    - Cobb AP - $270
    - Cobb Downpipe - $10
    - AEM UEGO - Free
    - Eibach Pro Kit - Free (later sold)
    - Lower seat foam - Free

I probably could have gotten more for my car privately but I didn't need to have wannabe Ken Blocks test driving my car and crashing it into trees on me.
