I was just going to post that - glad you already got that epic bastard covered here!

Probably, I'd just leave it there. I think I like the later styling better when nav became standard. I just like the idea that there's less electronics in the vehicle. I already want to remove the rear air suspension, which I think has always been standard. The 3rd row I could live with out, it does fold nicely away, but it's excess weight. I don't need the 2nd row for that matter.

I think the no nav trucks are more desirable fir build up an off roader less stuff in the way, and theoretically command a lower price.

It's still funny that it's a fully locked ute with a V8, yet the majority of buyers purchase the GX because leather navigation and the 3rd row, I doubt most people ever use the 3rd row. I would also prefer no moon roof and a different style rear door.

Well, we did have his dad’s permission to take it on a camping trip around the desert, but I don’t think his dad knew that desert camping included off-roading! We got stuck twice - once in the sand at Glamis, when my friend pulled off the highway to much to my shock - I was yelling “don’t stop” and he did. an old guy in a Willys with a chain pulled us out that time.

The second time is when we were camped out in a wash and in the middle of the night, a four by four truck with KC’s blaring started doing donuts around us and left - we were scared he’d return and were like :goingcrazy::goingcrazy:so we tried to leave in the dark after he left and got really stuck. That time we had to make a little road out of rock and had to keep jacking up the rear end to get clearance.

Gold Crown Road was pretty easy back then - it was not nearly as bad (or fun - depending on what you are driving) as it is these days, but the Pinto basin stretch was really bad for deep gravel and sand, so we had to bomb down that stretch in order to keep from getting stuck.

When we got home, there was gravel all over the top of the engine and oddly, the oil cap was missing!

My first car was a beater 1968 BMW 1600 that I used to rally around with the desert with my friends. One time I bottomed out, and the friend sitting behind me started yelling that his feet were stuck under the seat. We hit bottom so hard with that unibody floor bent up against the seat, and his feet were stuck. I had to get in back and pound on the floor with my feet in order to free him! Those cars were pretty light and good for driving around on dirt, but where they really excelled was on curvy mountain roads!

Wish i never sold my Mazda 323, i let it go to a junkyard. Paid $500 for it (lean sale) and got 120k miles out of it over 3 years traveling the country for BMX related activities. I dont have any picture of the more "gnarlyier" stuff it saw. but goddam it would just keep going and going

yeah, like the junkyard! Oh man talk about a money pit, never buy a BMW. I sold mine for 500 bucks to a guy that exported it to the Azores. It’s probably at the bottom of the ocean rusting with the fishes right now.

…but you’re right, they were with us for some really good times.

1980s BMWs were perfect. Cheap, easy to maintain, and didnt cost a ton to fix.

Yeah, the 60s ones were just expensive because parts weren’t that available, I couldn’t find points and other consumables very easily for it. I ended up having to get a distributor that was compatible with Volkswagens, there was a guy modifying them to do that.

The rumor is that it did go up 58% grade. Tacoma would disappear in the white cloud of smoke.

exactly. In a Niva if you get stuck on a hill, just stay on the throttle, for like minutes at a time….until your tires start melting…..no white smoke, not hydro-lock…..
