What else to do while replacing CVs? And OEM/Napa Reman CV Compare

    Hey gang, I've got my front end apart to install Light Racing UCAs and new CVs.

    My brakes are fine, and I will be checking my wheel bearings. Ball joints seem to be fine as well.

    Is there anything else I should inspect while my front suspension is torn down, or obvious mods/parts that would be efficient at this stage?

    Secondly, there has been a lot of back and forth on CVs, but I've found little information on Napa Remanufactured CVs. I wanted to post my initial findings.

    NAPA claims that the remanufactured CVs are done by Cardone with OEM parts. However, my OEM shafts are a few millimeters larger in diameter. In addition, there is lots of pitting on the housing on the remans; splines, however, look fine.

    Online, reman axles state a 3yr or 36k mile warranty. I asked the guy at NAPA which one he's go with, stating that the warranty on new axles (lifetime) seems more appealing. He assured me that reman axles also have a lifetime warranty, which was a contradiction to the website.

    SO. TL/DR: Should I bring these axles back, swap for brand new, and bring my OEMs to CVJ? Or roll with these Carone Remans (and still bring my OEMs to CVJ). I am planning on keeping two on-hand.

    Since you have spc uca im going assume you’re lifted more than 2.5”. I have done my fair share of cv r&r. 100k+ miles on the stock cv. The boot tore right away after my lift. So I decided to go cheap and get some Napa cv. Drove home from my buddy’s place after the swap and I was leaking diff fluid everywhere. So decided to get a pair from cvj with their high angle boots. Not even a year on them. Called up cvj and was told high angle boots have no warranty “cus you take your truck off-road”
    So I got 2 oem axles and just replaced the boots myself with sdhq boots. So far so good. I got 2 spares waiting to get rebooted.

    I would keep what you have now and learn to rebuild your own axles.

    I rebuild my Cv's using Toyota part# 0442760131 boot kit. The inner and outer boots are the same material as our factory Tacoma outer boot with the tougher plastic. My wife's 5th Gen 4 runner had a leaking rubber inner and the dealership replaced both boots and used the exact same kit under warranty after I explained how ridiculous I thought it was that the factory rubber boot failed on a stock vehicle with 50k. They have held up on my Tacoma through some serious trails. However I have also used the Cardone axles and never had an issue with diff oil leaking with them installed. Replace your seals while you're in there and maybe install the ECGS bushing .

    Sweet, thanks for that part number. Would prefer to rebuild them myself. I think I’ll run what I’ve bought for now and rebuild my oem axels, and may swap them back in and keep my NAPA remand for backups.
