Yes, for moisturizing while hand washing, when you're out of Evian.

The title and the thread does not bother me at all. Just my thoughts on another dumb oil thread which has been repeated hundreds of times. Apparently my response bothered you. Didn’t mean to do that. Haven’t you seen the same basic question asked dozens and dozens of times? And the same answers. Definitely is time to move on from this brilliant thread.

Here’s a video for you guys, it sort of answers the question of what oil to use and it has other good information as well.

Also it’s Larry so, it’s obviously good.

    https://youtu.be/99cJ5sHG0oI

I worked with the “oil marketing” team at Advance Auto back in the day, I learned a lot of ridiculous stuff about oil.
They talk about most of it in the video.
Synthetic blends are kind of dumb because there’s no regulation, so I don’t use them. High mileage and extended life are legitimate things with specific additives but if you’re following the proper change interval they’re basically wasted money.

I already know I’m wasting money changing it sooner then is needed but it doesn’t bother me. Keeping my oil clean makes me feel better so I’m good with spending a few extra bucks on it.

Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage Full Synthetic 5w and Purolator Boss filters. Change every 5 -7K, 165K on it and it humms . . . minus the typical engine tic. I do not tow.

Changed oil today. Went with Pennzoil full synthetic 5w/30 and the Purolator big boy, the Boss PL30001.

Noticed a new SuperTech formula today at Walmart, the Advance Full Synthetic, provides protection up to 20K. $20 vs $15 for the standard full synthetic. Will try it for the next oil change. Came out last year but only noticed it today. Haven't seen reviews on it. They also have the new MP oil filter line, also rated up to 20K miles.

I cut open a Fram and Toyota after the break in oil changes. The Toyota filter has about 25% more paper than the Fram. I pick them up at the dealer for about the same as the Fram so it's a no brainer.

Oil and filters have never been my problems but a cheap thermostat that stuck closed at 70 mph ( my 86 ) on the highway and a cheap plastic pipe ( my 05) you couldn't see that had a crack right over the hot engine so you couldn't find the typical leak, hoses, clamps etc. caused it to toast all the while the temp gauge was perfect *&%$#@. Oh, and the replacement part was a stainless steel tube. $4200 Too late. Unless you are brutal to your truck as most said any oil and filters are fine. If you are brutal...you deserve what breaks.

    I use:
    Mobile 1 Full Synthetic Oil
    &
    Toyota Filter

Don't buy a cheap Purolator, Fram, etc filter...Filter.... get one of the better qualities. Toyota, Wix, napa gold Supposedly the k&n, moble 1, are good I personally have never used one nor have I cut 1 apart.....

The only thing worse than another oil thread is a resurrected, 10-month old oil thread.

The Fram Ultra, and the Tough Guard, and Purolator Boss are pretty good filters.

Project Farm has some good videos comparing the various full syn oils, if you're looking for actual performance comparison testing and not random claims from internet strangers. I think Amsoil, Redline & Penzoil Ultra Full Syn won the "Oil Series Playoffs" below.

    https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=project+farm+amsoil+vs+pennzoil

I love the part where he writes Amsoil a letter at the end informing them they won his tournament & mails it to them with the trophy

not sure the point of a larger filter on the 1GR
people change to larger filters on small turbo motors because they come with too small of an oil capacity in an engine that is harder on oil (turbo) so the larger filter is used to increase total oil capacity

05 had plastic pipe change to SS?
    2.7 or 4L?
